You're fucking awesome. They should let my German professor go and just play your videos in class. She taught us Präteritum und Perfekt simultaneously but never made any distinction between the two, so we were inadvertently conjugating these awful frankenstein creations. We do use 'habe gewollt' with 'not' though. You can say: 'Ich habe das nicht gewollt' to show regret. Like when someone got hurt because of your actions. So it translates to 'I didn't want that to happen'. In German, there is an exception to every rule ;)
