I think that Apple should keep iOS it’s own thing for phones but iPads and Macs should run the same

iOS feels snappy, modern and feature-packed.
MacOS feels like an abandoned relic from years ago, receiving iOS's scraps.

In iOS 6 and below (when Steve Jobs was still CEO) they had exclusive updates for the new iPhone (of that year) that other devices didn't get.

I share your reservation about what this means for macOS apps. UWA are absolute garbage on Windows 10, I really hope Apple paid attention and adresses all issues and limitatiosn we've seen there. Otherwise, consider me intrigued. I love how apps that are present on iOS and macOS work together (i.e. Ulysses, Deliveries etc etc) so I see potential that this might get even better. Also Home app and Health app on a Mac would be neat.

I don't mind at all not have a touch screen on my MBP I don't really need one since I have the touchpad and keyboard. I have an iPad Pro 10.5 and I'm considering getting a keyboard for it because when I'm doing work, say in Pages, I find that the touchscreen on iPad is not as easy to use as having a keyboards and trackpad on my Mac.

What I've been thinking lately is why not let certain Apps run on an emulated version of iOS built into macOS? Something small at first, like iMessage Sticker apps getting support on the iMessage app in macOS. Then branch that out of course. It's an idea that I'd love to see Apple try, hopefully soon.

So, this could actually be a very welcome change for developers. I'm using Visual Studio with Xamarin to develop cross-platform apps right now, and my understanding of how this might work would be to basically allow iOS apps to run (and scale UI to) macOS. That is essentially how UWP apps work (Universal Windows Platform). Xamarin allows those apps to run on iOS and Android with one back-end code base. Developers can also make custom UI for each platform using the same code base. This is how it might work, and it may allow the mac app store to catch up with other platforms (and destroy the barren Windows Store, RIP).

TLDR:
This could allow lazy/busy Devs to port iOS apps to macOS, UI and all.
This could also allow macOS and iOS apps to share a code base, so that porting only needs new UI elements to fit the platform.

Source: I took a class where we developed iOS and Android apps using Xamarin.

A single OS or a single app project don't have to mean going into the convergence way. At all. It could just be that you could have a single project where all libraries and inner code and resources are shared BUT the user interfaces are different. So, you would write everything just once, _except what people actually interact with_, which would still require adapting for each platform. Thus, it could be that nothing at all changes for users, or that iOS, macOS and watchOS actually become a single appleOS _which is used differently on each device to better fit its format_ .

Don't be scared, software can be modelled in an infinite amount of ways, there's barely any ideas which are just "on" or "off", "yes" or "no", "this" or "that". And Apple can play with that as much as they want to.

the title pissed me off for two reasons:
1) that is the most stupid thing i heard in a while
2) the 'm' in macOS is lowercase

#1: I personally really like Windows 10 and definitely prefer it over Windows 7.
#2: Regarding what you mentioned about the touch gestures on the iPhone X and iPad, those should get fixed - made consistent across devices because right now, it all doesn't feel very Apple-esque.
#3: I think we won't get an "appleOS" anytime soon, but I would appreciate not having to pay for the same app multiple times just to get an iOS and a Mac version.

The original OS for the first iPhone was a derived version of OS X from the Mac. The whole point was that they didn’t have to code every single thing for the phone because it was already cultivated in OS X. Features like multitasking (background apps) and leopard(?) were possible because they already existed in OS X. Then iPhone deviated from the OS X and housed it’s own new iOS, the same one we use today. Now, bringing back together is a bit weird because iPhone OS and OS X we’re together up until the first iOS.

watchOS and tvOS derived from iOS. That’s why Apple TV used the same chipset as iPhones.

I love how you said that the Mac App Store is recent even though it’s been around since 10.6.6. That was released back in 2011
