What does the Bible say about witchcraft / witches? Should a Christian fear witchcraft? Is there any true spiritual power in witchcraft?

Thank you for this. My son's mom has recently revealed to him that she is a witch and plans to "help heal people" through witchcraft and magic. Please pray for me as I navigate some very difficult and potentially messy discussions with him in the immediate future.

I woke up one morning to see my dad burning all my Harry Potter books on the BBQ grill. I was very upset at first, but then he looked at me with sorrow in his eyes and asked me; "Do you love these books more than Jesus"???. I was very taken aback at his question. I did not understand why I could not love Jesus and Harry Potter. My dad then read to me the story of Elisha, and how he slaughtered his oxen after he was called to be a prophet. The moral of the story was that, you need to get rid of anything that may hinder your walk with Christ. If Elisha had not slaughtered his oxen, he may have been tempted to return to his former life and abandon his mission for God. My obsession with Harry Potter was causing me to develop an unhealthy interest in the occult and witchcraft, and this was endangering my relationship with Jesus.

So you're telling me God allows bad things to happen because he allows the devil to have power? Is it really free will if our only choices are live and follow this god or burn in hell forever. That's like telling your child "Your choices are eat this fruit and you can go to your friends house or don't and I will beat you with a whip"...that's not free choice. That's disguised manipulation

It saddens me to see people leave the church and seek witchcraft. Which to their logic was, "I was seeking answers and didn't get them". "I feel connected to the earth." Etc. Although, I am aware that many churches don't have the holy spirit and fail to discuss or fear such topics, or lack knowing how to discuss them.

wait if you said Satan only has the power God allows him to have then why does God allow him any power at all? Why cant he just stop it all completely and let us live without Satan controlling or influencing us to sin or stumble?

I have a question. Is taking pain medicine from a pharmacy ( my mom has severe back pain, deformed tail bone ) considered witchcraft? She can hardly work around the house when she doesn’t take her pain medicine. What if they really need it? Please answer. I wanna know, because I don’t really understand how that’s witchcraft.

The statement that using substances or practices to achieve an altered state of consciousness is witchcraft respectfully is an oversimplification.

The one big key is intention. Practices like meditation, exercise, music (song and dance), liking rocks, essential oils and taking legal drugs/substance for therapeutic, health purposes and even appropriate and responsible relaxation purposes are not inherently witchcraft.

They become problematic if used to engage with or in the pursue of spirits/ irresponsibility without spirit defence (from God). Anyone can enter an unlocked house.

Not all arts and crafts are idolatry either. The Holy Bible distinguishes between beneficial practices and things from
occult activities.

Let’s please Remember, Luke was a physician; using medicine isn't inherently wrong (Colossians 4:14) neither is consuming wine (Psalm 104:15; Matthew 11:18, 19), etc.

That said, I like this video, for the most part, it explains a lot accurate points. Our loyalty must be on Team Jesus.

Liking rocks isn’t witchcraft, using them to engage with the spirit world is.
