"What could be finer, what more right and proper, than a Holy Empire conceived as a great federative league, based on trust rather than subjection, composed of friends from within and without, the whole under the leadership of the Emperor-king?"
~Friedrich Heer, The Holy Roman Empire~

According to my dad, our ancestor was granted the title of _Ritter_ (knight) which is a hereditary title
So, I do occasionally think about it

Well, I actually think abut HRE more than RE.

There are lots of funny, unique, and interesting about HRE.
For example: people calling it "dysfunctional", yet HRE lasted for 1000 years.

Remember, a nation which saw Charlemagne, lived far enough to see the United States of America

Average Holy, Roman and an Empire enjoyer.

It might sound strange but the obscurity one gets from being in one of many small independent principalities actually sounds kind of nice.

It was Holy, and a Roman, and hell, even an Empire. Come at me arrogant french rationalists.

The HRE during its early years(10th, 11th, 12th century) was actually very centralised, though after that it degraded into a decentralised federation.

I normally think of the original Roman Empire, I may need to vary it up a bit.

Wonder how Augustus would have reacted when he heard that those germans were cosplaying as Romans

I’m putting Peter Wilson’s Heart of Europe on my Christmas list. Can’t wait to learn more about the HRE. 😎👍
