Every year, in the United States, about 14,000 people are hospitalized with dog bite injuries. And in an attack, you might have to face more than one or two dogs. Fatal, multi-dog attacks involving more than three dogs have risen 164% since the late 1980s.In 2019, attacks involving more than three dogs caused 38% of all deaths. And pit bulls were involved in 78% of those attacks. Why are some considered more dangerous than others? Should you stare at a dog until it backs down? And why is running away a bad idea? How dangerous is an akita dog? Should you be scared of an american staffordshire terrier?

Whether it’s an earthquake, mudslide or shark attack, survive whatever awaits you. How To Survive shows how to endure life-threatening moments with science and survivor stories.

I remember being taught in primary school that if we're confronted by an aggressive dog, we should stay still and calm, clench our fists and look away. A few years later while walking to school a large dog came up to me and started barking. I was scared but I remembered what we learned at school about dogs and did exactly as we were told. The dog eventually left me alone after a couple of minutes and I was able to continue on.

Six years ago something like this happened to me, I was aggressively greeted by one of the biggest dogs I've ever seen, and I stood in front of him and kept my cool because I knew he was going to make a move on me. He tried to make a few moves on me, and each time I made a move on him (like running towards him, hitting the ground hard and I screamed as hard as I could.), after a while he realized I wasn't scared and backed off. I finally made the wrong move and reflexively turned my back. As soon as I turned around, he ran towards me and bit my kneecap. Because I was a big man who was 5'10", he couldn't quite do it and I got away with it, I got ahead of him when he was trying to make the second move and I kicked as hard as I could into the abdominal cavity with the pointed tip of my shoe. I watched the dog swing up from the ground and showed him who was strong at the time. Then I watched him walk away screaming in pain., which is to show him who's the alpha. If you are being threatened by a dog, respond as harshly as possible, and if it stops threatening and makes a move on you, you should make a move on it. Especially the abdominal cavities are very sensitive, you can hit the tip of your shoe and stomach as hard as possible and push it using your weight. If he finds out you're stronger, he'll back off.

Thanks. Next time I encounter a dog attacking me, I'll check if the owner is an intelligent person and whether or not the dog has a history of aggression. This may just save my life when the dog has its jaws locked onto my throat.

I'm still a little shaken up because this just happened to me and my dog a few moments ago during our dog walk. Some crack head left their pit bull outside the liquor store.. I was about 100ft away and the pit bull charged over and broke the leash they hastily tied around a pole. the dog bit my dog 7 times and was wimpering in pain.. I keep trying to move my dog away by the leash but the pit bull kept coming to try to bit her. I then stood in front of my dog and screamed at the top of my lungs to go away and slowly walked backward.. The pit bull finally stopped and went off. I don't know if this is the right tactic, but doing nothing and just standing there wasn't doing any good at all while my dog was getting mauled.. I feel terrible for my dog.. she's a very sweet dog and it had to have been quite tramatic for her. I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow for a check up.
