GROWING REISHI MUSHROOMS at Home & Making Tea With Them! Episode 2

I'm thrilled to finally give you an update on the mushrooms I've been growing at home! The reishi took some time to fully mature and it was totally worth the wait. It's my first time growing reishi and I had a brain fart: thought the grow kit would produce Ganoderma Lingzhi, but actually, the strain used for this kit is the Antler Reishi (Ganoderma multipilium). Thus why they look more like antlers than an umbrella.

Reishi are not your typical grocery store mushrooms. Because of their tough texture and bitterness, it's frequently enjoyed as a tea (definitely not as a pizza topping haha). Just a tip from a commercial mushroom farmer 👋🏼 Reishi (and all other medicinal mushrooms) shouldn’t be boiled but simmered because the high heat can destroy it’s medicinal benefits! But overall, perfect grow! Very beautiful antler Reishi! 🍄

When I clicked on this video, I didn't know this mushroom was lingzhi! I wasn't even sure I believed that lingzhi was real or accessible. I've read a lot of Chinese novels and seen a lot of Chinese T.V. series that talk about lingzhi, and it's always been some mystical mushroom that gave people some crazy immunity or even immortality. The top of the top is supposed to be the "thousand-year lingzhi" which is supposedly this magical thing that is sought after by emperors and whatnot to attain immortality. Upon searching online, "thousand-year lingzhi" doesn't actually refer to lingzhi that's been around a thousand years but merely something that's so rare you might be lucky to see it once in a thousand years.

Best is to soak them in vodka or Baijiu for 2 months to release their triterpenes (alcohol soluble). Then only cook them together with the triterpenes rich alcohol solution to release their polysaccharides (water soluble). Boil for around 2 hours to reduce 3 parts of water to 1 part. Then you get the full immortality function of Reishi. Triterpenes plus Polysaccharides.
