1:42 I did the calculation and research just to find out that she spent about $74.97 just on 3 bags of aquarium sand. Same store and company so no one can say I'm wrong, unless the prices change by the time I'm typing this. But like Jesus Chris 💀. Only for one of those bags its already 24.99(with that money I can buy an aquarium heater 😅).

What do you use for filter? We bought a turtle kit and the pump died on us and I'm assuming its because of our sand

What you do for the smell that always comes from turtle aquarium? Do you add anything for it?

Beautiful tank, I totally agree with you, the sand is definitely a fun factor.

May i ask if the plants you have at the bottom of the tank are real or fake? To you support the idea of real plants in turtle tank? I have few floating ones the they are fine so far (1 month only)

Hi - I have a question about the floating island you have, how well does it work for you? My turtle is about the same size as yours and I'm worried that she might be too heavy for that island, but she's also having issues getting to another island that she currently has that is stuck to the glass cristal.

Is it safe to mix turtles with beach sand?

hair grass is not good idea for this type of tank.
you need proper substrate that contain nutrient for carpet plant. and turtle is too active with substrate that easy to take out the plant.
you can try anubias, or kadaka but is slow growth. not halping cycle turle poop.

You need more substrate for a planted aquarium. Usually you are supposed to put black dirt 1 to 2" then sand cap of 3 to 4". Otherwise you won't have any nutrients for the plant roots unless you use root tabs. I personally do it the natural way with dirt then sand cap which is what I did with my 50 gal pond with 5 hatchling painted turtles and lots of hairgrass, moneywart, water wisteria, red root floaters and water hyacinth which the turtles also eat.

i had fake grass substrate in my tank for months, but switched to bare bottom only for the winter (easier to maintain/clean). but, now i see my turtle is so bored i am regretting it :( but the fake grass is, again, just do damn hard to clean and maintain!

thanks for the video. i'll be switching to sand.

aquarium sand is be more safer with a sand substrate but i jst is hate how all aquarium sand does that like when my turtles use to dig it up little bits would always float to the top so i jst switch to regular sand one time was better tbh

What about beach sand tho? Obviously wash it first etc, but otherwise is there anything else from beach sand that could harm turtles? Except for UV lighting I try to reduce the amount of synthetic, manmade elements in my tank as much as possible, even if they are made for animals. Just a personal preference.
