For adding to a establish tank. Get a piece of 2 inch pvc. Long enough to reach where you want the sand. And still reach outside the top of water line. Pour substrate down pvc pipe to desired location.

Thanks! Perfect timing Jen.
I'm Looking for even More tips or info for adding to established tank..
1. is the clarifier safe at this time?
2. Do you need to add smaller amounts over a certain period of time? Or whatever u want to add all in one day?
3. Many people add sand during/after algae battle where sand loss occurred during removal of top layer of covered sand..(many times over)
How long Do you need to wait to add bacteria additives such as bacter7 or waste away? If you just added Live sand? Assuming dry doesnt matter?
4. If adding dry sand, is it better to First, add to a mesh bag in unlit sump to seed and perhaps even add bacteria dose to tank to help sand surface get covered with good bacteria... Before putting into display with light where photosynthisizing algae bacteria could get foothold on surface first if not seeded?
5. Is Funnel and pvc pipe better for adding to established? more control for direction and release? Start with pipe on bottom and slowly lift and distribute... like drawing w sand. : ) it seems it would, but I have not done this many X's over to form an educated experienced opinion. So... I ask. : ) thnx.

When Im adding new sand, I always clean the sand THOROUGHLY using a spare filter set with a lot of filter floss to collect as much of the dust left on the sand as possible since it may seem clean but a little movement could make a mess of your tank instantly so I try to clean the sand as much as possible (since I buy it dry). When adding it to my established aquarium, I tend to take everything out and push the established sand to one side so that the tank floor is exposed in which I will add in my unseeded, clean sand into the empty half of the tank before filling it up with clean water while the fish and live rock and filter media are in a large tub for temporary holding while the filter media of my tank is switched out for clean media to catch more sand dust since it probably spilled out more dust that was stubborn to remove. After about a week of shaking the sandbed, I take out the “dusty” filter floss and return everything back to normal, rocks and fish back into the tank along with a full dose of beneficial bacteria.

Our forums routinely post for clouding assistance but are told if they pre rinse, a consequence happens. So for six years we've tested and logged the events below.
