Americans Living in Serbia Village for 7 Days

Serbia is famously known for the beautiful city of Belgrade but this country has small villages like Gola Glava that look like Tuscany. Gola Glava is a small village near Valjevo and it's where Ana's grandparents were born in Serbia. We spend time with Serbian locals making Slivovits (Plum Brandy), cook traditional Serbian food, and hang out with Ana's entire family. The Serbian food we make in this video is mouthwatering.

As a Greek American, with parents from Greece. I definitely understand emotionally where you're coming from. I love the Serbian people, we have a lot in common. The swirl Pita is just how my YiaYia and mom made it. Thank you for a great video. I loved your videos from Greece! 🇺🇸 🇬🇷 🇷🇸

We Serbs are extremely sentimental and deeply attached to our roots and our culture. We can travel and live all over the world, amass wealth, but we still suffer from not being in Serbia, we miss our village, our family and our childhood friends, as well as the simplicity, the humor, the bohemian and the positive madness that characterizes our culture and way of life.

Despite the country's economic difficulties, I left France a few years ago to come back to live in Serbia. Of course, I earn less in my living, but I spend usefully and above all I have gained in quality of life.

I found something in Serbia that I had lost elsewhere: time. I have time for everything: for my children, my family, my friends ... Besides, all my foreign friends who came there on vacation had the same observation: a feeling of freedom and of being able to take "time".

They really appreciated the interpersonal skills, the kindness and the hospitality of the Serbs. The Serbs see each other a lot and we very often have dinner and barbecue during the week, even if we work the next day. We do not wait for the weekends to do this.

I am not saying that it is an ideal society, it has its faults like all the others, however, having a lot of acquaintances, friends, a large family, it maintains a certain level of solidarity and mutual aid., and therefore also of user-friendliness.

Despite all the difficulties, we try to maintain values that are important for the proper functioning of society and of each individual, such as family, children, respect for elders, solidarity, a moral and historical conscience, and religion.

The young Serbian generations dream of the Western way of life, dream of success, but are not aware of the sacrifices that must be made. With age, we may realize that simplicity is the key to happiness.

In any case, it was a beautiful video full of simplicity, nostalgia and love. I apologize for the level of my English, I learned it in France, so sorry for the mistakes.

Greetings everyone and long live Serbia, Serbs and all our friends around the world.

When you speak about Serbia is like to speak for my country. I am so glad you made this video I love Serbia more than my country (Bulgaria) we have a lot common food, traditions, drinks but Serbia is my favorite place. You can buy so many things in America but freedom is most important thing.

Ian and Ana... well now you made a grown man cry watching this video. My family came from Germany... and I too had grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins that I used to visit every year for 5 weeks along with my mother and sister (dad had to stay home and watch the dog!). Visiting relatives and enjoying the food and culture in Europe is so wonderful. The trips were always so great, and you get to enjoy your extended family. The hardest part is always the last few days... because you know your dream will end... and you also never know when it will be the last time you will see some of them due to age and illness. I was fortunate to have had my grandmother remain for my first 7 of 15 trips back home. As the years progress fewer and fewer family members are left, so enjoy it while you are still young! Love your videos... Gary in metro Detroit.

"Half he sells, and half plum brandy he drinks with his friends... it is a nice system, he'll never run out of alcohol"... More importantly, it is a nice system, he'll never run out of FRIENDS!! Thanks for a great video!
