Description: A couple of days ago, I saw a video from Wealthy Expat, where he listed all the reasons one should move to Serbia. Most of the information in the video was false, and in this one I explain all the wrongs in his video from paying taxes in Serbia, buying property, traveling with a Serbian passport, and much more.

Also to address the comments regarding carrying the military uniform over the border. I didn't wear it while crossing. The uniform is just a costume for videos & it was in my bag, alongside other clothing, not even front and center.

While Romanians didn't give you much trouble, I'd suggest not attempting to enter Croatia with a decommissioned Serbian military uniform.

That expat dude is like the definition of "wealthy-er american man who is very insecure about his looks and has no dating game in the US"

The taxes here are actually insane. The pension fund that we pay so much for is laughable, you can barely live on it even in rural areas, much less urban ones. Same with healthcare. We pay so much for state healthcare but it's such a terrible experience going to a state hospital that most people just go to private clinics (effectively making the healthcare tax useless).

It's shocking how similar are the problems of Serbia with the ones of Greece..

My Serbian boyfriend and I were planning to move from the US to Belgrade together to be closer to his family, but he dumped me yesterday, so thank you for releasing this today to help me feel slightly less shitty about it

That's because Americans and Westerners in General have very different experience in our Own countries in Eastern Europe than us. I've not lived in Serbia, but living next door in Bulgaria I've noticed how much better and smoother everything is for foreigners here. Even institutions do them favors. In their countries we're discriminated against, and in ours they're treated way better than us. Which says more about us than them! We're counter-logic people with extremely low self esteem!

i honestly inherently mistrust people who call themselves expats. not surprised that he didn't know what he was talking about. good video, definitely set the record straight

I find smaller Serbian towns to be in general much friendlier than Belgrade, and closer to the stereotypes this guy was describing. Where I live, I already know the people I deal with and they know me, the shop clerk lives in my neighborhood, so does that lady from the court and the police officer, etc. I greet all the neighbors every day, they can invite me for a coffee or give me a ride to the town center. Even though my Serbian is still almost as bad as their English.

When in Pancevo people were reporting they'd have to make an online appointment with the officer 2 months in advance, in my town I would just walk to a police station sometime around noon, and if the guy wasn't busy elsewhere or on leave, he'd just receive me immediately and issue the papers right away, joking and commenting all the while.

Dunno about the dating scene, but everyone I meet say I should get married soon, lol (no young single women among them, unfortunately). Pretty sure I could approach someone at a kafana or whatever, but being only able to communicate on the level of: "You pretty. Gronk like pretty." makes dating and especially starting relationships a bit problematic.

Taxes are NOT low, and prices as well, except for real estate and maybe services. However, I bought a nice house with some land for 35k euros, and now in the process of renovating it (mostly on my own, so it's taking ages). Great neighborhood, wonderful neighbors, lots of green, children playing all over the place, walking distance from the town center... Could've done even better and gotten an amazing mountain view from the terrace, if not for the restrictions to buy land for foreigners.
I'm investing in Belgrade real estate, and there are good deals to be found there too, but certainly not for a foreigner who just came into the country and doesn't know anything. Mostly deals where the documents are not ideal, that definitely require a good lawyer.

As a Serbian I would dissagree with about 80% of what this guy said.
Not perfect, but not that bad as he tried to present it.

I love working as a waiter in Serbia because I can see in real time where my taxes are going and the answer is into the stomach of government officials that dine here every day pay with money from a fund that is supposed to go to the local hospital, school or road and don't leave a tip

I've always found the idea of Yanks moving from America to Eastern Europe for a tradwife hilarious and you're the first person I've seen point it out

I truly admire how Eastern Europeans can admit that they don't have the best country, while still having pride in the culture, and flag. 👍

Absolutely shocked at how similar the situation in Serbia and Albania are, especially the real estate prices.

The "balkan women are not feministic" argument is such an American thing I can't help but laugh, as a Romanian who went to uni and works in Romania. Believe it or not, we are connected to the west still. Progressivism and feminism, whether you like it or not, still make their way here. We're just a couple of decades, if not years behind.
