As a kid I thought their music was different and so appealing. As I got older I realized the level of genius and craftsmanship that created it.

Steely Dan is quite simply 'the' most sophisticated, adult expression of popular music since the advent of Rock & Roll.

If you ever wondered why Steely Dan sounds unlike anything else you have ever heard just take a look at all the people on the stage that it takes to create this sound. What's amazing is that these two musicians could hear in their minds exactly what sound they were looking for. This resulted in a constant revolving process of session players coming into the studio and recording until that precise sound was found. Donald and Walter are basically Steely Dan however their music is filled with performances by the best session players that have ever lived. The music they created is some of the most complex and sophisticated ever recorded and I am in awe of how well they pull this off live.

This is the definition of “cool.” Everyone in the band is cool, the audience is cool, their eyewear is cool, the backup singers are cool. It’s all cool. Thanks for the cool.

I used to work as a parking lot attendant at an amphitheater in California as a summer job back in the mid 90's and Steely Dan played. I remember sneaking in during the concert when we had our break. I recognized alot of their songs from the radio, but had no idea how incredible they were til later in life. I was only 21 at the time and knew and liked Steely Dan, but at that age didn't have the appreciation for what I was watching...I would love to be able to watch that 2 hrs of that concert again with the appreciation and perspective I have now of the greatness I was watching then

I can't figure out what is harder to believe, that Aja is 45 yrs old or that this performance took place 22 yrs ago. Wow.

I was in 6th grade when Aja came out- I pulled weeds for a weekend to buy that beautiful black album. My brothers made fun of me for years for listening to Steely Dan. Now in 2022 I’m going to see Donald Fagen— with my brothers! Aja opened a lot of musical doors for my 12 year old brain way back then. I am quite certain I have lots of good company!

Steely Dan is the product of what happens when you get the best studio musicians and back up vocalists in the country and then add the genius of Walter Becker..R I P and Donald Feagan.Rock history and Hall of Fame.

I really feel privileged to have been a young teenager in the 70s decade when the majority of all this great music was coming out. I remember some of my friends weren’t into them as much as I was, but my rock music tastes were a little more eclectic than theirs. I was leaning towards a lot of blues rock, but the fusion taste of Steely Dan really appealed to me too and I followed their careers closely, owning their entire catalogue in various forms of media, and still listen to their music regularly now at age 65. Their music is timeless and will continue to be enjoyed for many generations to come.

I still feel so sad that Walter left us a few years ago. What a loss. An incredible musician, and a super cool, chill human being.

When Walter Becker passed, his estate sold at auction a bunch of his music gear. Amps, effects, instruments, road cases etc. He had _ALOT._ So much so that a large portion of it was sold in "lots." Luckily, several of the people who bought a few different lots of gear put up individual items for sale on places like eBay and Reverb and it became available to regular fans. I've been lucky enough to purchase three of his effect pedals and I'm currently in negotiations to buy one of his amps and it's matching flight case. It's so cool that so much of his equipment was made available to his fans. Many who themselves are serious musicians and it's very special to have some of his personal pieces in our rigs. He naturally had an excellent ear and taste for great gear. I'd hope more families, if they themselves aren't musicians and/or don't need music equipment, consider doing the same. Not only do I absolutely cherish the pieces I have, I use them everyday. I can't help but imagine Walter would want it that way.

truly truly, no one like them. Saw them in the 90's and I was sat next to Paul McCartney who sang along with every word.... he knows...

As a 50 year old, The Dan are in my earliest memories. I remember singing along to Rikki Don't Lose That Number when I was 2 or 3. It's a song that I hold dear to my heart because my name was Ricky, now Rick...and I named my 21 year old only son after me.
