I found the point about the lack of utility of the KUB particularly interesting. I feel like we get them so frequently to assess for stool burden…but it’s true, it doesn’t really affect course of treatment and is subjective to the radiologist (somewhat).

I am such a huge fan of doctor Larry Mellick. I'm somewhat of a erudite and study medicine purely for fun. I'm a 35 yr old woman from PA. But Dr Mellick is so awesome 👌. Makes learning medicine so much easier and fun and explains everything in such succinct clear and brilliant ways. Also I've gone over a month many times. Only once ever was hospitalized. I have gastroparesis. Since I still had sound of movement in the abdomen and wasn't vomiting fecal matter they didn't do any type of emergency surgery luckily. I convinced them after 24 hours to let me go home even though I still hadn't gone. Finally at home after having the citric drink they'd prescribed I went a day later. But even at best once a week is the most I go. I've been told by several doctors that while rare for some people it's not of particular concern. Especially when it's not a new onset symptom or accompanied by anything emergent.
