An endometrial biopsy is a medical approach that includes a tissue sample of the lining of the uterus. The tissue consequently undergoes a histologic evaluation which implements the physician in forming a diagnosis. An endometrial biopsy is summarized under a microscope for cancer and other cell irregularities. The procedure generally takes 10 to 15 minutes.

An Endometrial Biopsy test is done if you have any of these symptoms:
- Heavy or long periods
- Irregular Periods
- No Periods
- Bleeding after menopause
- Bleeding after taking a breast cancer remedy called "Tamoxifen"
- A thickened uterine lining

Risks for endometrial biopsy include:
- Infection
- Causing a hole in the uterus or tearing the cervix (occurs infrequently)
- Prolonged bleeding
- Slight spotting and weak cramping for a few days
