Moving on can be a very helpful way to learn any language. If you skip a sentence and learn more sentences, when you go back to that skipped sentence later, you understand it without any trouble. I hope one day my English will be as good as your Chinese!

I couldn't have put it any better. I have learned 3 languages to fairly high levels and when I stopped trying to know why but mostly what "is" the message it kick started alot of things but mostly being able to think in the language directly. After i can already think in the language then i spend alot of time refining the grammar and shadowing, reading out loud, etc... After you can think in the language everything else is so much easier. I'm not even learning Chinese but i enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!

This makes a lot of sense. I will get back to a reading practice.

Time and again you guys have helped me improve my imperfect paradigm of how to acquire Chinese, and therefore how to use your wonderful course more efficiently. A huge thank you for all you do!

This video is very good when you watch it to the end. Yes my plan is to do volume reading, not getting bogged down on any one word or sentence.

I picked up the first "journey to the west" graded reader. Started reading it back in phase 2 (of TMBM) and only picked up words here and there, hardly ever full sentences. Now that I've made it to the intermediate level, the whole process has shifted. I'm understanding almost every sentence and only missing a few words here and there. Reading is a great way to see your progress. I had also picked up some native novels and like to go test my progress by trying to read a page every so often.
There's a lot of empowerment in being able to do something that once felt very difficult. As a kid, my brother and I would play Rock Band on expert level to make the other modes feel less intense. I feel like I'm replicated that feeling by trying to read content far out of reach before settling into a graded reader at my level (or just past it)

Language is necessary for survival. It's not about expression, desire, or understanding others. Sorry for being such a detective. Understanding others happens because of a non-language connective mechanism which occurs in biology. Ask me to think about it more if you want more. Unfortunately, I'll also need to try to make sure this will help you teach.
