Did John Darby invent the Rapture in 1830?

One of the objections I hear when the rapture is discussed is, "The rapture wasn't even around until 1830 when it was invented by John Nelson Darby." That's a serious accusation, but is it true. Let's find out.

Escape doesn't mean leaving the earth. God is quite capable of protecting His people while He pours out His wrath. Look how the Israelites were protected during the plagues in Egypt.

Regardless of which time you believe, the main thing we need to do is be doing what he wants us to focus on - reaping the harvest. If we're too busy arguing over the timing of the Rapture we aren't sharing the Gospel message and bringing more people into the Kingdom.

I have heard that very thing and have used it myself in the past. I have been struggling with which side of the aisle I am on, the pre-trib or something else. This kind of information helps me make that decision. Thank you for sharing!

2Th 2:2  not to be so easily confused in your thinking or upset by the claim that the Day of the Lord has come. Perhaps it is thought that we said this while prophesying or preaching, or that we wrote it in a letter.
2Th 2:3  Do not let anyone deceive you in any way. For the Day will not come until the final Rebellion takes place and the Wicked One appears, who is destined to hell.  
So this is the earliest example of the Rapture as Paul had to reassure the Thessalonians that the Rapture had not yet occurred and that they had not been left behind! All other verses are a description of the actual event itself!

I love it. So many say, The rapture was not even thought of, nor mentioned until around 1830. True. But I am also personally drawn to Daniel 12:4 which says "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Then again in verse 9 "And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. So I would not expect anything from any "church fathers"

I definitely do not agree with a Pre-trib rapture through scripture, but your demeanor is very scholarly and I respect it. I have many Christian brothers who don't agree with everything I believe, but we all work together as fellow servants of Christ. I can tell you are probably similar to that. I believe the accusation is not whether JND invented what we refer to as the rapture, but rather did he invent the Pre-Trib rapture, or rather he popularized it around about that time as it didnt exist as a teaching until the 18th Century

The Apostle Paul was given the mystery of the rapture which he wrote down in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 and 1 Corinthians 15 so “no, JN Darby didn’t invent the rapture”.

Considering the "great tribulation" was the Jewish Wars and the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple, my question is - did Christ rapture the church in 65 A.D. ?
