In Greek Mythology, Prometheus was thought proceeding action (foresight) and his brother Epimetheus was thought following action (afterthought).

In the myth Epimetheus was handing out positive traits to lifeforms but with no foresight, he had run out by the time he reached humans. Prometheus decided to steal the fire of civilization to give to man instead. He stood trial after for the crime, taking the punishment for Epimetheus's failure.

So here quite clearly Joshua is Prometheus and Clive is Epimetheus.
