Hi! this is a video that we had to adapt and re-upload, as the previous version was blocked due to some images we used. In the next video, we will also be updating the end credits with the new members. Thank you very much, everyone!

I believe the reason is simply because that's not where they "live" anymore. The machines live in The Matrix, they don't live in the real world. It seems clear that machines wanted to be human and enjoy all the things humans enjoy in life. In The Matrix, that's where they enjoy all the things humans enjoy, romance, love, sex, etc. As you pointed out in earlier videos, the machines needed humans to be co-processors to run The Matrix. Freeing humans was necessary to keep The Matrix stable, but if they could repopulate the planet, they would no longer need The Matrix to survive. So by keeping the sky scorched, they keep humans reliant on The Matrix.

Humans needed the sun to survive so it seems silly to scorch the sky just to get rid of an adversary.
Cleaning the sky could have led to humans trying to colonize the surface so leaving the sky black would be a means to keep humans back.
I would think that they would have wanted to clean the sky. More sources of energy helps with redundancies incase if one power supply falters, they can fall back onto another.
I feel like "Resurrections" ruin the continuation of the series. It would have been nice to see humans and machines trying to work together with an end goal of cleaning the sky (of course there would be factions on both sides trying to break this truce). But instead, we get a shitty remake of the first movie because Holywood lacks creativity.

One thing that always bothered me about the animatrix and the story that was told regarding the nuking of 01... the electromagnetic pulses caused by the nukes would have completely obliterated 01, both physically and electronically.

What would be really crazy is that in reality everything is wrong, humans have never fought robots, but in truth like in Blade Runner it was the humans who destroyed the earth and built the matrix to survive. The robots are actually there to protect humans while the earth slowly regenerates.

The idea that humans blocked the sun has always bugged me. We would lose more than them. If Zero-one had its skies darkened it would make sense, while the rest of humanity is living on with clear skies is something world governments would agree to. I think facing extinction the machines knew they would fare better than the humans if the entire world was dark not just their skies. When the Architect said "there are levels of survival we are prepared to accept" that line might go deeper than we thought.

But if the sun was blocked, photosynthesis was blocked. This creates a huge oxygen depletion. How then were humans used as batteries for machines and some ppl lived underground with this massive oxygen depletion? Did the machines find a way to produce oxygen other than photosynthesis, like a microbial production or a chemical synthesis ? Basically blocking the sun collapses the ecosystem (since there is no energy supply) and such occasion is incompatible with the existence of life whatsoever. I'm sceptical about the scientific accuracy of the script.

I think that the machines have not cleansed the sky for what amounts to political reasons amongst the machines themselves. We know from numerous sources that there are many factions and voices amongst the machines and that they are tightly trapped in a balance that has been carefully engineered. Remember, the words of Sati's father: "Any program that is created must have a purpose. If it does not it is deleted." Further, the Machines economy is power-limited... that is to say, power represents the limiting resource for their activities. The power-plants using humans are therefore not just electrical power... they are POLITICAL power that dominates the dynamics of the machines internal political factions. Whichever faction controls or gates access to that electrical power therefore has a stranglehold on the politics of the Machine society. That faction, intrinsically, has no incentive to clean the sky because that destroys the monopoly on power that keeps them rulers of the machines. Further being rulers of the machines, they have the political and military power to prevent anyone else from threatening that monopoly either. Thus, by creating a prison for humanity, they create a prison for themselves. And because they hold all the keys to both prisons, the power of the One represents a destabilizing influence even more to the machines than it does to the humans.

I'm not sure they put that much thought into it but it does make more sense for machine to blacken the sky than for humans to. We've known for a few centuries now that all life on earth is dependent upon the sun.
.
Machines have plenty of alternatives to solar power but humans, animals and plants don't.

If the war-era humans could created a machines-resistant machine-destroying nanite-ish cloud, they wouldn't have put it in the sky, they'd have spread it inside the machine cities and armies. Something is still missing, hidden from the audience. You're right to be skeptical of the version of events told be either side.

I always wondered if the machines insect/ crustacean like appearance was derived from their studying of what life was left in nature on the post war earth. Possibly the bottom of the ocean.

*this might seem to be a somewhat silly if not cynical question but why would these advanced machines solely depend or be reliant on solar power? why not nuclear? i mean they are not or would not be as effected by radiation as biological life-forms so that in its own way would keep humans out of their controlled sectors or domains...just speculation on my part but it might have something to do with plot convenience...just sayin*

I think they already have a system that despite its flaws (Neo) works very good, dont fix what is not broken type, also it helps them to keep on subjugating humans that dont escape the matrix

Have you guys noticed how cramped or small the Matrix 4 simulation feels like?

Its like a sub simulation of the simulation destroyed by Smith in revolutions.

That extra-terrestrial life is a player in the equation is pretty obvious from the way Smith twice emphasizes the words "this planet" when interrogating Morpheus in the first movie.

It'd actually be a great twist if the Machines not only restored the Earth's ecosystem but actually found ways to improve it and make more sustainable for plants and animals. Maybe even bio egineering new animals to tweak the environment to their like. So you'd find a beautiful green earth but probably filled with incredibly deadily predators and poisonous plant life specifically to deal with the rare event of escaped humans.

Is it possible the machines could get stuck in a loop when solving certain problems they were not designed for? There's an algorithmic problem called "overfitting" where the AI algorithm can get stuck on a single track of thinking.

The machines in the matrix probably operate like intelligent bugs. They focus their actions completely for the machine hive, which includes maintaining the machine city and the matrix. While they should have the intelligence and capability to clean the sky, They have no real reason, desire, or curiosity to do so unless absolutely necessary for their survival. But if the current methods are working well enough, there is no need to change it.

Beautiful thing about Matrix is it has so many of layers of lies. It is impossible to know if anything is true or can be trusted. Maybe just like what is told in Gilgamesh story. We must stop search truth at some point. Trust the system, live with harmony with system and enjoy this show. As always thanks for this video.

Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying?
You will not find that life that you purusue.
When the gods created mankind,
They allotted to him death,
But life they retained in their own keeping.
As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things,
Make thou merry by day and by night.
Of each day make thou a feast of rejoicing,
Day and night dance and play!
Let your clothing be sparkling fresh,
Thy head be washed; bathe thou in water.
Love the child that holds on to thy hand,
Make your wife happy in your embrace!
For this is the lot of mankind!'
