The butter is what burned on the 2nd one

Well, this is a test you toss into the trash as a failed experiment. The reason the cheaper unit tasted better is because you followed directions on it, but did not on the expensive popper, which BTW is still the bottom of the heap per type. You NEVER use butter to pop corn, and it is best to use coconut oil and Flavacol salt like the theaters. They even make pre packaged corn/oil/salt like MegaPop 8oz packs that taste far superior to that air popper you are using. I mean really, does it only take a camera to make some form of comparison video where the results prove to be irrelevant? Hopefully nobody takes you on your word.

Don't blame the machine for user incompetence

That’s the same red one that “expensive” one is really good, just gotta get the right oil and salt

I had an air popper (cheap one) and the plastic over time melted and kept producing a very toxic smell.

I gave it away and bought a theatre machine (the expensive one) that arrived today.

I am so VERY happy with the upgrade. The cheap was good but the expensive is superior!

Use COCONUT 🥥 OIL 🛢 and it tastes a bit like butter 🧈 we gave it the 👩‍🍳 💋

Use coconut oil the unrefined or whatever so it doesn’t taste like coconut just a neutral flavor. Use butter oil topping to avoid sogginess. Use flavco for that extra buttery salty movie theater taste you’re welcome!

I just purchased the one you called the expensive one, and the very first instruction I read said "never use butter to pop the corn". that's why it taste overcooked (burnt) butter Burns quickly.

Don't add butter during the pop process. The milksolids burned and made it taste bad. Use an oil like coconut or canola oil. Ghee also tastes good since it is butter without the milksolids.

Bro... The machine overcooked the popcorn because you used butter instead of oil!

You could also burn it without oil and is a fire hazard.

You have to use OIL on the bigger machine, not butter.

A cheap air popper & an expensive prosumer popper. Two different methods of making popcorn. Air poppers have been criticized for making dry, tasteless popcorn. For the second popper, you don’t use butter for popping, it burns. Use an oil, like coconut. Add the butter later.

I have a different brand of that first machine. I have found that you need to put in a certain amount of kernels, to prevent it from acting crazy. I wanted a little and dropped less than a tablespoon of kernels in. It produced about 5 popped kernels and the rest of the kernels were shot out unpopped. They were all over the counter and floor. I tried again, with more kernels, and most of the kernels popped and landed in the bowl.

Well I mean you gotta pour it when it’s almost done popping everything so it doesn’t burn

In the cheap one it’s a dispenser it’s a measuring spoon for the kernels

Geez, you don't know how to use either of these machines.

The blower motor and the heating element of the hot air popcorn popper are not protected against liquids. Pouring butter into the popping chamber is creating a fire hazard. At the very least, it can damage the hot air popper.

As for the more expensive kettle popper, you're supposed to use oil for popping corn, and the oil is added first and allowed to come to temperature before adding the kernels.

Oils typically used for popping include coconut oil (usually refined coconut oil to remove coconut flavors from the oil), canola oil, and peanut oil.

And the oil serves a couple of important purposes: in addition to adding flavor and crispiness to the kernels, the oil also helps to more evenly heat the kernels and prevent them from becoming scorched.

Butter can be used as a popping oil with a kettle popper, but the butter must be clarified first to remove all milk solids from the butter fat. Otherwise, the butter will burn.
