As someone learning all of this before owning a bike, you’ve answered literally every question I had excellently, thanks coach

When I was a young teen, when I’d be in the car with my parents, I’d act like was on a bike and did the gas, clutch and shifting. I knew I wanted a bike but never knew when I’d get one. I finally did when I got out of the Marines in ‘70, with the money I saved in Nam. It was a ‘51 Harley panhead. BUT…I didn’t have a bike license and most important, it was a jockey shift. So someone at the shop had to ride it to my house. When I finally fixed it the way I wanted it, I rode it and didn’t have any problems. A friend, who knew it was my fist time, said if he didn’t know better, he thought I’d been riding for years. I guess my backseat practice riding paid off. And at 73, I’m still riding a Harley Breakout.

Bro you literally explained this better than anyone EVER. I’ve watched so many and you by FAR we’re the most understandable and thorough. I have ZERO questions.

You hands down have the most informative tutorial I’ve found on gear shifting, literally been clueless on how it worked even after watching so many videos, I got my first bike a few days ago and my msf class is a week out . So I’ve been learning how to ride but only staying in first gear. Now Given the knowledge I’m ready to shift like a boss!

Update:IM SHIFTING LIKE A BOSS thanks to this guy!

You should make a vid on both engine braking and rev matching

Very good video. I've been riding for about 52 years and your information is spot on. Only one thing that I would add. When you first took off on the bike you mentioned to release the clutch and go. Most first time riders aren't going to be on a bike with enough torque to do that. You might want to mention that they need to ease out on the clutch as they give it some gas. This was the first skill that had to master. Good work Block.

Im a 19 year old girl who just bought my first motorcycle and this video has helped me so much. I was having trouble understanding how shifting worked since im not super familiar with a manual gear box but now im really getting the hang of it thanks to these videos. It also nice reading the other comments and seeing im not alone in my struggle. Thanks again for the great videos!!

Just to let you know, yesterday I went to the dealer to get my first bike and I drove it home all by myself (15Km) without never being on a bike before! Just watching all 3 of your videos made me undestand pretty good how to do it! (to be fair I have a driving licence for Cars and I used to drive a Piaggio Vespa kind bike that has no clutch and no gears...)
But I've made it almost all cause of these 3 lessons! Thank you so much for the effort and the quality of the videos!

Hey man your videos have been helping me more than you think. I just passed my MSF class last week after watching your videos. I still need to buy a bike for myself. Thanks for the help!

As we used to teach coming from the holster.... "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Go slow to develop muscle memory, and as muscle memory improves, you'll get faster. Same applies to the action between the clutch and gas. Great vid, sir!

You've explained it so comprehensively and crystal clear that I feel that I could go out and ride, now. I've never even tried before. Things are gonna change! Thank you, for a great video.

I’ve been riding for years and for some reason I still watched it. That’s how much your videos rock.

Finally someone who explains the gears and what you can and can't do.
Most do not explain it, so thank you.

It's been 8 years since I've ridden, but just bought a new bike, and this (and the first two parts) has been the super helpful refresher I needed.
Thank you!!
I hope Mrs Blockhead has rewarded your efforts.
