If one day the speed kills me, don't cry. Because I was smiling

I quit riding about 7 years ago after a bad accident. I'm here today to say, I'm back in the saddle again. Fear was my way to stop riding. I decided to not let it ruin my life. If fear is what is keeping you from riding, then fear is controlling your life. Some fear is good but controlling fear is lifestyle.

Just got my first bike and started riding this week. That healthy fear keeps me safe and confronting it helps make me stronger. I had a great life before I started, riding just reminds me how precious it is and how imperative it is to appreciate it and get home safe.

I let it go when my son was born. I needed to make sure I'd be around long enough to raise him right.

I’m 56 and I’ve been riding since I was a kid. I’ve recently crashed. A hit and run left me on the road with my ribs broken out sideways and a broken vertebrae. It’s killing me not riding but I’ve got a lifetime of great memories. I’ll get back on a bike as soon as I can.

Been riding casually for about 4 years as a main source of transportation (150 - 220cc) and I’m not gonna be one of those “bikes saved my life” guys. But as someone with ADHD and depression, I can say it’s brought that child like joy back into my life. I’m not gonna say I’m fixed an perfect now but that’s something that’s hard to get back and maintain especially if you’ve seen or been through shit that’s made you learn to be numb. I’m still not a social guy, I don’t like going to clubs anymore, but riding has given me a reason to leave the house again and that’s huge. At least for me.

Been riding my whole life, even just broke my arm last weekend... all my friends who don't ride say I should quit but I never will, because the smile I have when the helmet comes off is worth it all.

I couldn't get back on a bike for 7 years after losing my brother in an accident. Back on 2 wheels for the last 4 months.
Loved every minute of it. 3k miles laid and rising. N honestly, I don't think I will ever lose that love for bikes. I'll just be sad one day when I'm too old to ride.

Been riding since I was 19 (32 now). I took a break for about a year and noticed my happiness and overall mental health suffered. The bike brought me back. Ill ride until I physically cant. Keep up the work.

I’ve only been riding about 3 years but in that time I learned that friends come and go a lot, usually from their own irresponsibilities, but the biggest issue with riding is fighting the urge to become reckless. It’s a sport where 80%+ of accidents are rider caused and avoidable. You have to respect the machine, or it will possibly kill you.

Also for all you new guys, do NOT slack on maintenance. Bikes are expensive but ignoring stuff like chains, tires, fluids, can have catastrophic consequences.

I stopped riding back in 08 after a small accident. I've been searching for something to bring me the same joy since then and still haven't found it. Lost a close friend in a biking accident this yr. Cracking that throttle gave me the biggest smile. All the bikers be careful and ride as if everyone is trying to hit u. Look out for everyone.

My wife just passed commuting home from work on the bay bridge, lived and breathed motorcycles. And still not sure if I should give it up. Granted I only did that commute once with her, never again.

I’m 64 and first got bitten by the bike bug at 12… finally am on what will be my last bike, a ‘19 Gold Wing. I’ll quit riding when I feel I’ve lost the edge out there. The best therapy there is.

Two reasons. At least for me. When I was raising a young daughter, my wife asked me, with tears in her eyes, to stop riding, to insure I'd be and know her papa. For 12 years, and two more daughters, I quit outright. That was pretty tough to do.
It was tougher still when she divorced me because, and I quote "...All you do is just work!".

I started riding a yr ago. It has helped my anxiety better than most things I have tried. I recently started riding in the rain... its so dam therapeutic I cant convey unless you've done it. Nothing else comes close. I cant see myself ever stopping.

Its very addicting, I should focus on my career and social life but most of the time I choose to ride instead. It can be problematic to be honest.
