I learned how to drive a manual car before I ever drove an automatic. When I was like 12 my dad taught me how to drive in a 84 manual Porsche and I would always be looking at the dashboard at first and taught me to basically just learn how the car sounded/felt for when to shift. He used to make me wear a hat and sunglasses when I would drive so you couldn't tell how young I was, he'd literally be like we're going to the mall and we get outside and i think we're taking his truck and he'd just throw me Porsche keys and tell me I'm driving lol, the mall was like 30+ minutes away. He used to take me and let me do burnouts and donuts in parking lots cause "he knows what a teenager wants to do in a nice car and so I get it out of my system and drive nicely". He would do burnouts and launch on the streets but he always said it was cause he's older, he can just tell the cop his foot slipped and they'd probably believe him but there's no chance they're gonna believe a young guy.

Funny thing is I used to live in Bangkok and decided to buy a motorbike to beat the insane traffic.

So I brought it from the shop and was given the key but had to explain to the mechanic that brought it out I couldn't ride a manual so could I pay him to deliver it to my house. He told he's friends and I had the entire shop laughing at me. I've never been so embarrassed 😂

I got it delivered and watched a YouTube video and spent an afternoon going in circles round my village and then was riding on the road the next day.

I actually started this year, may 10 2023 is the first day I got on a motorcyle, started on a 03 cbr600rr. I watched a couple how to ride videos, my friend taught me how to ride in a parking lot for a few hours, then it was time to go to the notary to finish up the title work for the bike. I forced my self to just go, traffic was terrifying a bit, I messed up putting the plate on (last owners sketchy wiring) and i shorted the dash. I rode for 2 weeks with zero dash, and it helped.

My speedometer sensor broke during a long trip but I knew the sound of engine and the speed related to revs in each gear, so I relatively knew how fast I was going. For those who don't have reflexes yet established is a good advice (also better avoid the hours of heavy hectic traffic)
