English is the language of science and technology, which is why you encounter it everywhere these days. Some experts even argue that English has become the world’s lingua franca.

In China there’s hundreds of local language but Mandarin Chinese is by far the most spoken, and it’s also the official language of the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan.

Considered to be the lingua franca of the Hindi belt, Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language and a direct descendant of an early form of Vedic Sanskrit. The language is written in the Devanagari script.

Spanish is the mother tongue of Latin America and Spain of course. For people whose mother tongue is English, Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn.

Known for its pleasant, poetic sound, French is a Romance language of the Indo-European family that’s officially spoken in 29 countries across multiple continents.

Modern Arabic isn’t really spoken as a mother tongue. Instead, it’s a standardized, literary version of Arabic used in books, newspapers, and academic settings.

You might not expect Bengali to be have so many speakers but this Indo-Aryan language is spoken in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, mainly in Bangladesh and India.

Although the origin of language is hotly debated, many scholars believe the first spoken language appeared in sub-Saharan Africa at about the same time modern humans emerged. From there, humans and their language spread out into Mesopotamia, where agriculture was the main way of life. The new farmers in the modern-day region of Turkey spoke a language which would become the mother tongue of the entire Indo-European language family. Some well-known members of the Indo-European language family are Greek, Latin, Spanish, English, Persian, Sanskrit and Hindi
