What are the most spoken languages in the world? It's a more complicated answer than you might think. Here we break down the most recent numbers from Ethnologue, which calculates the total number of speakers of a language (including both native and not), though because of population shifts they're changing all the time. Who knows? Maybe you'll find your next language here, too!

The smaller dialectal variation between the same language (more uniform pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar) allow the speakers of that language to communicate more easily with each other. In terms of linguistic variation, those who have the least and therefore best communicate with each other, speakers from different regions or countries are:
1.Russian
2.Spanish
3.French
4.English
5.Hindi
6.Bengali
7.Arabic
8.Chinese

Conclusion: Spanish, Russian and French speakers from different regions or countries best understood between each other, since pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary are not as varied as in the other languages. The first 3 languages (Russian, Spanish and French) are characterized by having a dialectal variation so low to understand absolutely all dialects. While English, Hindi', Bengali, Arabic, and Chinese have larger dialectal variations that make it impossible to understand certain dialects, but are still considered the same language.

Another fact to mention is that the variation between English and its respective dialects is the same as between Spanish and Italian. And finally, Portuguese and Spanish together are less varied than English and their respective dialects. Therefore, we can ensure that Spanish, Portuguese and Italian could perfectly be considered the same language.

This is wrong Spanish is 2nd. Places like the U.S and Brasil have areas that there native language is Spanish. Not to mention places like the Philippines that have languages that are partially Spanish.
