After 5 years went off T3 and T4 medications. Have energy again, sleeping good, normal appetite and as Type 1 Diabetic went from 95 units insulin daily to 45 units. 😮 Blood work never indicated I was hypothyroid. Thank you for reassurance and studies.

I've been on thyroid medicine for 10 years. I've tried backing off on my meds 2 times and I always get bradycardia and severe depression, body aches, etc. T3 and T4 dropped too. Especially T3.

Just be careful going off thyroid meds. I've tried repeatedly, my antibodies skyrocketed, tsh 76, etc. Went strictly gluten, grain, soy, dairy free. Still hypothyroid.

Got put on Levo..Weight gain, hair fall. Quit cold turkey after almost a year. Hair growing back, down 6 pounds. Using red light therapy 850 nm for 10 min daily on thyroid and super-clean diet. Feel so much better. Also taking l. Tyrosine, a non-essential amino acid first thing in the morning and a few times during the day. (1/4 teas per dose)

I have been on Levo for at least 7 years. I forgot to take it with me on a short trip but found myself sleeping like a baby. I have had insomnia for quite some time. So, I decided to keep going to see how I feel. I'm a week in, so far, so good. I get blood-work in about another week, so I'm interested in seeing what it says. Either I was totally sleep deprived, or ??? I feel much more calm.

For several years now I have been taking 50 mcg of levothyroxine every morning. Like clockwork I would feel very sped up and sweat heavily. I first thought it was just menopause symptoms. My doctor at that time didn't think it was caused by my medication. So I continued taking it at the prescribed dose. Over time I began to feel very edgy and easily aggitated .
finally I saw another article about people being overprescribed so I cut my pills in half and continued at the lower dose. The symptoms began to lessen over the course of a few weeks but not gone completely. So I began experimenting with not taking it at all. I feel way calmer than I have in years. I do intend to discuss this finding with my new doctor (the other one retired)

As a former hospital administrator, I was intensely interested in alternative methods to treat Hashimoto's. I changed my diet and went gluten free and no sugar. I exercised daily and took supplements including seaweed iodine. I started to experience severe depression, fatigue, gastrointestinal issues and severe body aches. In the meantime, I moved and changed endocrinologists and stopped taking levothyroxine. My levels were so severe that I nearly went into coma. Went back on correct levothyroxine level, kept the strict diet and exercise and now feel like a million bucks. There are some of us who do well on the medication and would probably die without it.

I was on thyroid meds for 8 yrs. I started ADHD meds I needed to take with food so it was really annoying to wait so long. I asked doc if we could try to go off thyroid meds. I tested after 8 weeks and my TSH is fine <2.7. 🎉

I was in 2013 administered by my general doc to take thyroid hormone based only on thyriod test and on his imperssion regarding my health condition . I felt immidiately that it improved my condition Because my heart was already on a brink of colapse and I was too.

Only after I've done USG check of thyroid I realized that I have thyroid gland half size of normal . Since I started hormone I started to live normal life like never before. For previous 50 years as I can remember I used to tell that any heat is better than not enough. I enjoyed outside heat in tropical sun in 35C deg . I could wear thick winter sweeter in hot sunny day. Now I care rather to keep dressed not too much - because heat is unbareable for me and I have much more energy than 20 years ago. Tried how would it go without medication and within 3 days felt so bad that was forced to go back. It was my test and I am not planing blood test because one of such tests resulted in damage of my arm vein and results in numbers are so clear as inside feeling.

I was put on levo just because hashimoto's was affecting my fertility and I wanted to get pregnant so my endocrinologist decided to medicate. I got pregnant a couple of months after starting the treatment and now have to keep taking it throughout my pregnancy, but dr says that as soon as we're in the clear he'll gradually take it off. I'm also seeing a naturopathy doctor so I can support my thyroid during pregnancy and eventually make a smoother transition to no meds.
