to be clear these are not remasters. Every track on this album was re-recorded by Jeff Lynne and accompanied by mostly himself playing all the instruments. He is a genius of course.

This version sounds more punchy and crisp than the other one. But the original sounds richer and more spacious whereas this version sounds like every instrument is tightly put on top of each other. There's simply more clarity on the original. However, the rhythm on this version is much better to me. It just sounds livelier. On the original, the rhythm sounds kind of limp and isn't quite as catchy as this one.

The original or this one, you can't go wrong with either. It's a great song regardless!

Welp... After listening to the original for so long... I'll be one of the first to admit that I like this more. The tacked on end bit always ruined the happy mood the song put me in. This one makes me feel better, and lets me stay that way.

Jeff Lynne is just pure genius... wow man... just so awesome. Listened to this song literally thousands of times over 30+ years. This version is a very fine remake. Hats off to you Mr. Lynne.

This sound is so much crisper and cleaner. I don't know which one I prefer to be honest. I think the vocals stand out way more and feel a bit more separated. But, everything seems so much more precise and this seems to fit the feel of the song more than the original. The original was more tight knit which has its own advantages. I guess I'll just have to keep listening to both :)

Isn't it incredible than even himself with modern technology was unable to make the track sound as good as he did back in 1977, especially the doubled vocals. There's something in the thickness and smoothness of the vintage analog era that is unrivalled. Sounds were melding together to become one ; forming a smooth and compact musical body. I've yet to hear anything like that nowadays, the mystery lives on.
