My three sons all turned out to be successful. Starting from a young age I encouraged them to make their own decisions. I told them that if they made a mistake it was just an opportunity to learn how to do it differently next time. Today, they're all in positions of responsibility, either as supervisors or managers.

The most important things to teach your kids these days is critical thinking, mental toughness, socialization, honesty, and adaptability.
Everything else is accessible through the device in their pocket

Getting paid for chores was great for me growing up. I learned to work hard and save money. I learned to spend wisely and started doing my neighbors yard for extra cash. I was 15yo with $1, 500 and I bought myself a Nikon camera and lens and pursued my love for photography. Then I turned that into some money as well, and that led into making videos. Skills I now use for various projects at work.

My mom & I raised my 5 boys & 1 girl in the ghetto. With the guidance of Holy Spirit we we able to raise them to be unselfish, successful adults, even though one had to endure prison for a season. Three of them earn 6 digits & all are endeavoring to help others who grew up in similar circumstances.

There are alternatives to “because I said so”
This really spoke to me, and a lot of millennial and gen z. We were taught that it’s disrespect to ask why. So many missed opportunities to explain life. It does not create respect for elders, only resentment.

Parenting is the one lesson which must be taught in schools or colleges. Other subjects will not benefit society as much as teaching good parenting. Good parenting makes a better human.

Thank you for this... I realized almost all my interactions with my kid I call my kid's names and bark orders at them... After seeing this I called them over during different parts of the day to ask them how their day is going.. We homeschool and I work from home. I can see their faces light up.

Something I learned when training kids was listen to their feedback, nobody one is infallible, you don’t want them to pick up the habit of thinking they are right all the time and getting defensive when challenged.

Brother you nailed it...I’m a single parent of a 5 and 3 years old boys...you have spoken out loud my inner thoughts and ideas of parenting. Great work, we’ll speak again once they grown up and see the results

Teach your kids to love, respect and be kind to all people. Sow seeds of goodness into their lives. Most importantly, teach them to pray. This life is short, their soul is forever.

Parenting matters! My friend has 4 siblings and all of them are married! Her parents raised them with so much love that all five of their kids got married!! That’s not common in my race! So parenting is the key!!!!

First choose your partner wisely. Kids need a good mom and a dad to be successful.

Both of my kids are high honor roll, accelerated math and science, varsity mvp in their respective sports. They have never been in any kind of trouble and never needed more than a "no-no" in discipline when they were young. The "secret" is love and attention. Play with them as much as possible, listen to them and be attentive when they try to communicate. They are very well rounded and just good kids even though they went through our divorce when my boy was 5 and my daughter 3. Love and attention and setting a decent example and they will raise themselves right. They are their own people not an extension of yourself you get to control.

I have 3 grown up boys, I’ve been married to there Dad for 56yrs, if you ask each one of them, ” What was your childhood like” each one will give you a different answer. Simply because they are individual, and see life differently. I’m a youngest sibling of six, and we were all brought up differently at least through the eyes of each of us. I don’t think you can predict the right way to bring up a child, you can only do your best at the time.

1. One on one time with every family member

2. Balance. 49% competitive 51% teamwork

3.Debate. Teach them to question things and build ‘debating muscle’

4. Teach independence.

5. Minimise ‘because I said so’. Explain the why behind the want

6. Choose the right movies. Pick movies with lessons and point them out/ discuss real time.

7. All kids are different. Accept it and don’t compare

8. Create a currency. Reward positive behaviours, not chores.

9. Ask them for their opinions. “What do you think?” About everything day to day

10. Generational curses. Try and break the chain of bad habits. Self deprecate in front of them. “You can be better than me”. Don’t let people compare your children to you.
