Hero 7 Black vs Hero 6 Stabilization Comparison

In this video, I am doing a head to head stabilization comparison of the GoPro Hero 7 Black versus the GoPro Hero 6 Black. The new HyperSmooth capabilities on the Hero 7 black are quite good compared to the Hero 6 Black which was already good. GoPro is calling HyperSmooth a gimbal killer, I am not sure about that, but I can see were a user would opt to leave the gimbal at home in some situations. I include sample footage from each camera then do a side by side to show a good comparison of HyperSmooth stabilization in action.

To keep things as fair as possible I mounted both cameras in the GoPole Triad. I recorded in 4K 30FPS.

If you run with it you'd notice the difference MUCH more. I have both and there is a BIG difference when both are used in any sort of activity outside of tiptoing through the woods. Running, bicycling, motorcycling, surfing, or even just filming yourself and some friends hanging out... you notice a HUGE difference.

The difference is soooo obvious...Makes me regret getting the 6 lol.
Now where it gets sick, a simple software update/upgrade would have given the same results...As both are almost the same camera.

Try panning footage then you can tell the different between both. Between you shooting with stabilisation on for both? Great review. You earn my subscriptions.

Appreciate all the test vids you work so hard to provide on this channel!👍

I wish people would show a unstable cam next to the 7 so we can see how much FD actually doing.

I just got a new GoPro Hero 7 black and it already is messing up... it recorded super grainy in 4k and then froze in playback let me play back the video clip I just recorded wouldn't let me change mode(photo, timewarp) wouldn't even let me turn off the GoPro!
I had to plug it into its charging port in order it to turn off.
Have you had any of these issues??

I honestly love my hero 6, stabilization is flawless. I'm also using an old firmware that had a better stabilizer. 1.60...I use it directly on my bicycle and its perfect.

Both seem to share/show wobble still. I just got a Feiyu WG2 and have been using it for walking and running. It still appears vastly superior to what the 7 black is illustrating. I suppose everyone (myself included) would want a compact package that doesn't mean using a bulky external gimbal, but having been a recent convert to Gimbal power and capabilities, I still see gimbals providing the clearest means of really allowing the camera to be its best. What an external gimbal can do that I don't think cameras have yet to achieve is provide stability for the lens to actually do its job without having to deliver stability. I don't mind wearing/using a gimbal either in Chesty (action) or via stick if it means getting the smoothest footage. Will be interesting to see your upcoming video(s) on comparing g6 with 7black.

I have both Hero 6 & 7, I have found the stabilization in the 7 to be better than the 6, but I have been having problems getting the 7 to connect to my iPhone or smart remote where the 6 connects with no problems.

Another very nice video. I think the idea behind, "Gimbal Killer" is the HERO7 takes out the must have purchasing of a stabilizer for those that don't have one yet. The gimbal market was growing rapidly the past few years, but now with stabilization improving, not only in the HERO7 (which does appear to be King right now), but also in other cameras and phones, they just seem bulky and a hassel for every day use.

I'll still use my Karma Grip, but much less now, and if I didn't have one, I'd hardly feel as compelled to get one as I once was.

If we have to put a number on the difference... Clearly the Hero7 is not 100 per cent better. Perhaps more like 25 per cent better? Slogan: Hero7 has 1, 25 times better stabilization. :-p
