Great. Another isometric RPG I'm going to buy and never finish.

This game is one of the most complicated RPG game I've ever played but once I understand the game's mechanic (only 60-80% of it), I enjoy every second of it. After 200 hours of playtime, still I can find lots of missing things from this clip, thanks.

Beginners guide. "Here, look at all this shit that you'll never understand unless you've played D&D for about 6, 000 hours".

Just finished the game, some tips: visit all map locations, for this, boost perception as much as you can, boost persuasion because a lot of exp comes out of it. For your main Character don't play anything crazy, play a barbarian or something like that. Make sure you have a cleric, everything that gives or offers passive or active freedom of movement get it. For the advisors use the right people, for example the warden should be someone with high constitution (look for the right Stat for each role) . On Kingdom mgmt try to rank up stats as a priority, then problems, then curses, then projects, then opportunities. For rank ups, after 40 level ups you will get a project to reduce the time to 7 days instead of 14. Don't stress over time, it's manageable. FINISH all companion quests and always pair Jaethal and Tristan on their companion quests. Hire mercenaries if you mess up level ups for your characters.

Anyone getting this 3 years later, or rather, now; There is, in fact, a respec option now.

This game need much better documentation. New players are going to have a really hard time getting into it.

Old cRPG's like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights had great manuals that explained all the rules and listed all the class abilities, feats, and spells.

This game is missing so much basic things like a spell progression table, spell list, class abilities list, feats list, etc. It makes it so hard to actually plan out a build. The first character I made was an evocation wizard, but since there's no spell list, I didn't find out until very late that there are no level 9 evocation spells. Without such a basic feature, even if you're a D&D/Pathfinder veteran, you'll have trouble since it's such a hassle to find out what abilities/feats/spells are actually in the game.

UPDATE: Apologies for wrong info about critical hits. Here is the correct info.

Critical Hits depend on Rolls and the attack that you are doing. Checking the weapon information will tell you what Roll you need to initiate a Critical Hit. If it says 19-20 (x2) then you need to roll 19 or 20 to initiate a Critical Hit Roll. This means that by rolling 19 or 20 and upon a successful hit you initiate another roll called Critical Roll. If the Critical Roll is higher than enemy AC then the attack does Critical Damage. If the Critical Roll is lower than enemy AC then the attack does standard damage. Rolling 20 is automatic hit, regardless of enemy AC. Critical Damage is displayed in brackets. If it says x2 then it means Critical Damage is double the normal damage.
Any Spell that does an attack roll can crit upon scoring 20 on a dice roll. Spell Crit Damage is doubled unless there is some Feat that can increase it further.

Critical hits only require one roll to confirm, even if the multiplier is x3 or x4.

Best one of these games I ever played was the Modded version of Temple of Elemental Evil. This is the most pen and paper like game I've played since and I absolutely love it!

I've gotten so addicted to this game. I come from many years of playing a hardcore D&D game and haven't encountered the issues I see reported. I run a balanced party, with mixed damage types and characters that compliment each other. The bear-like treant encounter I curb stomped without issue. The swarms were just a long, slow fight without me being in any danger of failing. I've only had one fight I've had to save for a later time. The enemy AC was higher than any of my characters could manage outside of a crit.

I love this game for sticking to the pen and paper style I'm used to playing in. A crit was something to always be feared in the tabletop games I played and it wasn't unheard of to be one-shot at any level, shit happens. This game doesn't hold your hand and give you a cake walk. It makes you think, plan, balance, and tailor to the encounters. The perfect way to have encounters

Top tip: put all difficulty settings to as easy as possible

There is one downside to multiclassing other than missing out on higher levels in your primary class. A character gets +1 hit points per level in his primary class, so if you go 18 fighter - 2 rogue, make sure you take fighter at first level or your 20th level toon will be 18 hit points lower.

A guide to kingdom management would be super handy as it’s the least explained feature in the game.

Quick note on the saves: You say that bonuses to saves won't stack outside class abilities, but that isn't quite right.

Any bonuses of the same type won't stack, but type isn't determined by effect. Many early bonuses to saves are Resistance bonuses, so the Resistance cantrip and a Cloak of Resistance won't stack, but spells that offer Morale or Luck bonuses to saves will absolutely stack with Resistance bonuses. Shake it Off will stack with all of the above, as it's an untyped bonus, and has a great affect on reducing the RNG feeling when debuff and shutdown spells start flying your way. Iron Will and Great Fortitude are also good spells for ensuring that those two saves (the most important two!) are strong on your characters.

Bought this a few days ago and you literally just confirmed my initial frustrations. I need more knowledge and will read more.

Regarding the spider swarms. Bokken actually gives you some flasks of Alchemist Fire you can use. They're enough to wipe out the swarms in the cave.

I just bought it. I'm trying to like it but damn. This game makes me loathe resting and camping. It's ridiculous, just incorporate it into map movement. Their are mobs scattered about in beginning areas that can wipe you without any chance of victory prior to level 3. Any RPG that seems to incorporate save games as a fundamental mechanism is broken.

I'm trying.
