Any project that involves your family is great regardless of the outcome. The time spent together is priceless.

Painted all my demo derby cars this way. I used good medium rate auto paint enamel reducer in the summer instead of what rustoleum says to use and it would be dry to touch in a couple of hours. If you use mineral spirits like the can says you will be waiting a week or more for the paint to dry. The paint always outlasted the cars.

Great job. Took a truck, that looked like Walt Disney threw up, and made it all one color. You got everyone involved and made the truck look good.

When we were Young, I painted my first car with rattle can. It turned out pretty damn good.

Acetone thins the oil base paint better and helps it lay down flat.
I have done a bunch of cars with Rustoleum, semi gloss Black.
Looks amazing and holds up very well.

Nice job. I did the same thing in 1983 on 2 trucks. One Blue, one tan. The paint jobs lasted for years.

As a professional painter I laughed so hard but in a good way. It reminded me how I started painting. Just like you guys! Loved it.

Couple of runs dont really matter, you will make it better next time.. That's what DIY is all about!

Very good work. Yes, I have an important observation and it is about the color. When painting on a surface that is not white, it is better to use a primer to distribute the color properly. That way it also requires fewer layers of color.

You do a cross hatch when scuffing big panels like that so you get mor coverage. Also it doesn’t matter how you scuff it cuz the primers gonna full those scratches anyways. But it came out great!!!

I still liked and subscribed so not being critical. Thanks for this video because I’m restoring a vintage camper and want a quality paint job without breaking the bank. I had planned to use Rustoleum. Automotive paint is over $1, 000.00 just to do a car, so this will save a fortune

So there's a lot to be said about your prep work & techniques, or lack there of. HOWEVER, you got it done, it was on a budget, and most importantly you got the kid involved and it was entertaining. A+ from me. Gonna check out some more of your content.

I spent about 4K on new fenders, a bumper, and various bodywork(pdr/bondo). I was going to have it professionally painted. Then the engine started throwing random codes and I’m out another 4K. I think I’ll just paint it my self with slightly more expensive paint and put a clear coat on with my brother and nephews. Thanks for the video and tips.

I did this to an old Buick and it came out fantastic and I didn't have a garage to work in just a local mall parking lot section where even on a busy day nobody parked their !

In the 1980's I had a used appliance business, and I would often paint appliances as part of that business. I found that naphtha works well for reducing paint, and it dries quickly. I found that paint thinner was a bit oily and dried very slowly. Using naphtha, I could paint an appliance in the morning, and by the afternoon it was dry enough to sell. I also see that Rustoleum now has an enamel reducer. I like your "7 rule". I had a viscosity cup that worked great, but now they seem difficult to find. Rustoleum also has clear now.
