Use Japan drier and magic enamel harder from tractor supply and it will dry fast and be a hard finish that can be buffed. I painted a 1978 Trans am Allis Chalmers orange the paint still shines and looks good after 7 years

*Disclaimer*
If properly prepped and maintained a Rust-Oleum paint job can last as long as any other paint job. This was done on a work truck that did junkyard runs was power washed numerous times and all sorts of things that beat on the sides of the truck etc. This is a real world example of the quality and overall hold up you can expect out of a budget paint job many years later that most ppl never show on YouTube. I hope everyone enjoyed the review again please like and subscribe God bless you all.

what sells it for me is if its rustoleum, it should be so easy to touch up. if there is no clear, and if its a color off the shelf, you can buy it anywhere, super cheap and just brush it on and sand it to blend, and then you can polish and wax the shine back. if it chips again so what? anyway my car i bought to be a project. i bought it for me to work on, not to pay maaco to work on. so if anybody is going to give it a bad paint job, its gonna be me.

You can get a restoration shop gallon of base for $140, and get finish 1 clear coat which is really good and used a lot in body shops for $115, or speedo coat clear for $80 and it’s also really good

What a great video. Straight to the point and made so the average guy like me can understand it. Great advice and very well explained. Definately going to check out other vids on your channel. Thanks for putting this out. Great job.

I tried it once and then after that I noticed it took almost a year for it to cure because when I went to sand it after 6 months, it would gum up the sandpaper and be rubbery under the coat,

Glad to see someone near the Raleigh area on here. I like the rustoleum paint job. I'm currently doing this to an ex RPD crown vic. I'm no expert painter by no means so the rustoleum makes it more affordable for a newbie.

If you go to tractor supply, they sell a special catalyst hardener for oil-based paints

Have you ever out hardener in rustoleum paint to see if it would work ?

I use majik reducer and hardener, works great

It’s been 2 days since I’ve painted the truck. Seems dry but still soft in some spots. After watching this I’m hoping it will end up fully curing or that I didn’t mess something up. I found this video while trying to figure out why it’s still soft. Glad to hear it can take 7 days or longer I was starting to get nervous.

I am doing it myself. I wish you were in my area. It's way more work than I expected. I have spent a lot on the little extras, sandpaper, tape, regulators, filters, thinners, acetone, paper to mask. The list goes on.

I just purchased a gallon of gloss white, thinner, and 8 ounces of hardner forget the brand hardner but does it have to be a certain kind of hardner?

My man, what would you say to using a rustoleum clean metal primer with a little hardner as opposed to an epoxy 2k primer?

SavDog

IM sure you know by know but you can add hardners to the rustoleum. I used this with out issues, Krylon Farm and Implement Catalyst Acrylic Hardener. 2 years on engine bay stuff with no issues .

I'm planning on painting a Dodge Grand caravan, I saw that you got the silver can instead of the white can, I'm wondering how many quarts I should be, and how to mix it with thinner, also did you use flood to deal with roller marks, also what kind of primer should I get and how many quarts
If you can help me in any way I appreciate it
I'm also planning on doing a roller application cuz I don't have a sprayer

I see the rust on the fender. I'm curious what your pre-base steps were. Did you go to bare metal and use an acid-based rust converter, or did you just primer over the metal? What kind of primer? Did you not go to bare metal? Appreciate the feedback, currently doing a cheap 79 toyota pickup build. Wanting to learn from others.
