hey yall let me just say, i might have been a bit unclear when talking about the watcher subscription thing! i don't think $6/month is affordable for everyone (especially internationally) i just had an issue with influencers/drama channels blowing it out of proportion and pretending THEY couldn't afford it when they had a million subs! if you are a regular civilian, you are well within your right to not want to pay/be able to afford $6USD, i just go insane when obviously wealthy influencers pretend to be poor for clout! okay love you byeee

RIP Buzzfeed you made me feel like a queer millennial living in LA in the 2010s dating and partying when I was literally twelve years old going to school in Europe having never met a gay person.

I feel like one of Buzzfeeds biggest mistakes was not seeing the value in their strongest assets. Instead of treating them like talent, they treated them like low level employees who could be replaced- turns out they couldn’t be

The "buzzfeed to 3 guys sitting on a couch" pipeline is real

the implication that this is buzzfeed lore lost to time being passed down to younger generations who didn't even know who ned

Can we talk about the fact that people were upset that Safiya used Buzzfeed as a stepping stone for her channel but weren’t upset with the Try Guys? Even though those GUYS did the same ass thing? It seems like people are just pissed that she’s a successful woman.

Quinta Brunson going from Buzzfeed to Emmy award winning actress AND writer! She deserves every success and I’m so damn proud of her! Abbott Elementary is my comfort show ❤️

this is only partially relevant but i need to say that one time i had a dream that i was so unpopular at school that buzzfeed made a list called "top 10 most underrated students" and put me at #1 with my full name and real life photo

The Ned cheating event was so funny live as someone who wasn’t into try guys at all. Just finding out that there’s some ultimate wife guy who got put into the spotlight by cheating on his wife

Glad to know being a lonely queer teen searching lesbian on YouTube and watching whatever came up was a universal experience

In another universe I like to think I could’ve been cast as Woman Pretending She’s Never Had A Lunchable 🤧

watching buzzfeed videos religiously as a teenager is I think the main reason I thought I was a millennial until I discovered sophomore year of college that I’m categorically not. all of the “adulting” “doggo” content was my main source of entertainment so I just completely assumed I was in the same demographic as women that were like 5-15 years older than me hahaha. generations are fake and being on the internet from tweendom will naturally make you identify a lot with the humor of people older than you, but it’s just crazy the effect buzzfeed had on my perception of my own age lmaooo. thanks for the time capsule

Quinta Brunson is the biggest success story from that channel and probably always will be.

Coming back to say that watcher just laid off all of their full time staff, so everyone’s concerns about where tf they’re putting the money is now only elevated

Ned didn’t bribe SNL, however, he did say several times that he had a friend who was a writer at SNL on the Try Pod. The writer guy (from Yale) was in some of Ned’s old photos and it turned out he one was of the writers credited on the SNL skit. So those SNL rumors maybe aren’t as unfounded as one might think

The idea that safiya "used" buzzfeed is so silly when u remember that youtubers of that era didnt start youtube w the primary goal of making a career out of it, most of them used youtube as a hobby/resume w the goal of pursuing a career in traditional media. Even within buzzfeed, the early batches of talent came in before buzzfeed became known for creating massive on screen talent, most of them were just fresh out of film school kids taking up an editing or producing job w the goal of eventually going into traditional media. Their final goal mightve changed once they realized they enjoyed being on screen n that youtube had become a viable career, but regardless i dont think most of them planned on staying at buzzfeed forever. They were all "using" buzzfeed they same way anyone else would "use" a job they know they wont stay at long term n only take up bc they need the experience.
