Just as a note, you got lucky with your selection. Different clones have different designs thus different pin layouts and circuitries. I swapped two fake airpods and their cases, and the airpods became dysfunctional as either the polarity was swapped, or there was a voltage difference. Whilst both the airpod and case have 3.7v batteries, one cannot charge the other at this nominal voltage, so there could be a voltage difference in different circuits depending on their approach. Most likely however it is a terminal difference, where positive went to negative.

Personally, I'd say you're lucky that the clone case charges real air pods. Lots of times clones have different charging specs. Personally, I would've bought a used case off eBay 🤗

So FYI if you ever feel like using the knockoffs or you lose your real ones, from my experience they start out alright but overtime they work less and less until they just straight up suck
