You NEVER want the doctor to do it trust me! Unless they are an anesthesiologist, you always want your RN 🙋🏼‍♀️ to do it, it’s what we do all day and doctors never do them.

Nurses are so underrated, they are always so kind and skilled, and I speak from experience with tons of cannulas all over my arms in my lifetime

Bro, this is so true. Back when I lived in tunisia, during the Jasmine Revolution, all of the nurses in my town went on strike, so I needed to get a blood test from a doctor, and it's the only time in my life I've bled excessively after a blood draw, cos he did something wrong, and said that he was so sorry, saying that "in my 15 years of practice, i've done 8 blood draws"

My family still won't believe that taking vitals and giving injections isn't a doctors job.

I had a doctor take a blood sample from my arm and it turned out terrible. The site of the needle ballooned and created a bubble. I looked at him and said what did you do to me?? He made me sit with ice and apologized. It bruised and took a few days to get better. Let the nurses do it! Doctors have their specialty and nurses have theirs

Hahaha gotta love them! I once had to have the doc come to the bedside to tell the patient no doc was going to start their IV 😂

I'd rather trust an experienced nurse than an less experienced doc. No hate on doctors, Im only using common sense. The thing doctors lack is enough practice in the various areas, not so much in theoretical knowledge. A good doctor is a theoretically smart one with that have worked as a doctor for more than a year.

In hospital keeping a loved on company, and the doctor was speaking to us when a machine started beeping. The drip had finished.. this doctor was trying to stop it beeping.. until a nurse eventually came in and switched it off in 2 seconds.

Be nice to nurses. They are the ones who will mainly care for you in hospital.

Certified Emergency Nurse here! I’ve had that request posed on occasion and I thank you for bringing it to attention here in such a cool fashion!

Thank you for the recognition from this RN. I had a patient ask me to have the doctor start their line, I said “sure I’ll ask, but they probably haven’t done it in 15 years.”

I had to have blood drawn from an artery in my wrist once, and at the same time, blood drawn from the other arm. I told them I needed a butterfly needle for the regular draw and usually phlebotomists don't believe me, but when the ER nurses saw my veins, they not only got the butterfly needle like I asked, they also called someone from the pediatric level to do the draws. I was well taken care of that day.

I want the nurse from the blood clinic every time - literally all they do all day is take blood and they're like lighting. My sister has refused her wards team occasionally and requested they call someone down- but she always gives the onsite team a couple of chances first

The few times I've gotten an IV, the nurse has always done it well. The nurses are experienced with that stuff. They may not be the ones doing surgery or prescribing medicine, but they know what they are doing. Everyone in the medical field is good at different things.

That reminded me I was in the hospital for a kidney stone at 12 years old about to go into surgery and the doctor kept stabing me with the IV and I just kept bleeding and a better doctor came in after that.

Once a doctor insisted on placing my iv bc of med students. I have really difficult veins. Ultimately 4 nurses held me down as I went into a panic attack while the doctor insisted on trying again. Her pride caused a lot of trauma.

It could have waited, I should have been allowed a rest. I was only 14.

I still get to fight nurses on what veins they can place an IV in. I have done this for 9 years. *I know better*
