If you want more pars, but you struggle from the rough around the green then let's first examine your lie. Is the ball sitting pretty or is it buried in the rough? What’s the texture and density of the rough? Is it light and fluffy or is it dense and thick. In this scenario, the rough is light and fluffy so I can be more shallow with my approach to create a simple technique to get this ball over the bunker and onto the green. So, let’s get to it!

Still doing the right thing ... straightforward, clear and concise ... without making instruction that is overly complicated and confusing. Greatly appreciated. Keep it up. Tough weather these past couple of weeks; early spring is fast approaching! ... We hope

Your “intent” means everything. Too many players picture pinching, or trapping the ball too much. This makes them too steep, with no room for the club to finish through. Other players will picture lofting the ball too much. This puts them too shallow, and behind the shot, resulting in the club bottoming out too soon, causing a skulled shot, because the club is on its way back up when reaching the ball. Ya gotta think…. Graze the grass under the ball. This creates a neutral shot, where the club bottoms out at the ball, and easily glides through to your finish. This also applies to full shots. Never over exaggerate your intent. Too steep isn’t good. However, too flat, or too much of a sweeping action isn’t either. Find that middle ground where the club is descending into the ball, and then easily allowed to exit from there, to finish your swing. Just some thoughts…

Great, thanks. But what if the rough is dense and wet with a lot of last year’s withered grass at the bottom?
