Still disagree with you about Chalamet. The further the movie progressed, the scarier he became. Perfect Muad'Dib.

The only thing I hated was that my theater didn't have the popcorn worm

The art direction on Giedi Prime was insane. One of the most amazing depictions of a futuristic society i've ever seen.

I so much disagree on Timothée Chalamet not giving his best. I fucking loved his scenes in the latter half of the movie, where it seems like transforms into this other being, where he is just SPITTING hate and anger onto everyone. I was really shocked, and it really worked with how Zendaya is disgusted with him. It was just so good.

Sorry but Chalamet ALSO gave his career best perfomance

I gotta disagree with the standout performance by Zendaya. She was the only one I felt was a bit lacking. Once Paul embraced the mantle of Muad'Dib, her performance was a bit too teenage-drama for my taste. Still, she isn't bad, just not as good as the rest of the main cast. As for Chalamet, I think he did an impressive job as Paul, especially in the later half of the film. Other than that, I'm with you, this is a GREAT sequel.

edit: As for Christopher Walken, yeah, he is the only one where I feel a recast would've probably significantly elevated some scenes. His are really the only scenes that somewhat pulled me a bit out of the otherwise impeccable atmosphere because my brain just went, "what is Christopher Walken doing on Arrakis?".

I think Chalamet's performance has been pretty strong, but the performance I think is far and away the best is Bardem as Stilgar and Ferguson as Jessica. He nails the way he portrays the hysteria and fervour of his religious experience. Ferguson's ability to switch between her machiavellian and sympathetic egos is fantastic. She's been through so much but she's also fully aware of her actions.

I love how they tweaked the story and certain characters to bring the themes more into line with the later books. You could be forgiven for thinking Paul is a hero if you just read the first book. Paul’s rise to power feels more like his fall to the dark side here, and I love it.

Honestly I truly enjoyed Chamalet performance, the moment he took that worm piss… it’s so masterfully conveyed in his face that something in him has changed, before him saying anything. I think people are just biased because he is a slimmer build man and you can’t picture him being in that much power. I had a lot of critic saying they couldn’t take him seriously, that says more about us as a society than his performance… he didn’t give a terrible performance you’re just use to seeing ripped men play leaders. He is playing a 16 year old boy that now has a lot of power and influence, if he didn’t nail that I don’t know what y’all want.

I have never seen a movie that altered its source material so much but somehow stayed completely faithful to it.

It's so interesting because for me the Zendaya and chalamet situation is reversed. I don't feel like Zendeya really held the water for the audience as she was the emotional core. I didnt feel like they had super great chemistry, Chalamet on the other hand... god he brought it the entire time.

That's just how Walken talks. I think his mannerisms have become so recognizable and parodied that we forget that he used to be cast in films like The Deer Hunter or True Romance because he has an unnerving presence.

I really liked Chalamet’s acting. I knew beforehand that he’s good at the soft and emotional side of things, but I was surprised at how well he pulled off the intense, stern side of Paul once he decides to become the Lisan Al Ghaib. There was a good contrast between his typically calm and quiet demeanor and then the explosive bursts of anger bordering on mania

Watched this on Friday. Totally respect your perspective, but my top three performers were Timothee, Rebecca, and Javier. Timothee delivered this insane change after the prophecy scene where you could see the changes in his physicality, the way he moved, the way he spoke, his facial expressions--everything. He completely sold the idea of being burdened by vast knowledge and power. He was downright terrifying in that scene where he speaks to the masses of Fremen. Almost alien.

And then, Jessica and Javier... what else needs to be said?

I enjoyed Walken's take. An aged emperor, desperately holding onto his power while being manipulated by the bene gesserit. I loved the scenes between him and Chalemet and thought Chalemet's performance was fantastic - particularly after he drank the Water of Life. He completely embodied Paul's journey for me.

The scene with Paul standing before everyone and taking the reigns was chilling. That performance was just top tier.

Javier Bardem was easily the standout for me. Really brought Stilgar to life

Agree with everyone else in how Chalamet's performance is basically perfection. This put him on the radar for actors to keep an eye on for me. He captured Paul's journey exactly how I wanted it.

I sat for a solid 5 minutes utterly stunned after the film ended. Can't remember having such a visceral reaction to a film.

Austin Butler was my MVP. I have had my doubts but he just carried every scene he was in.
