So, I do WW1 re-enactments, and am very familiar with “trench coats” and their origins/design choices for purpose. I have to say that the more expensive one does actually (at least visually) adhere more to the intended purpose of a true “trench coat” (“trench coat” is a colloquialism for the term ‘greatcoat’ as these coats became symbols of the poor conditions and cold weather in the trenches of The Great War.)
It appears to be of a semi-water-resistant material with a shoulder cape, loose fit for wear OVER a full outfit/uniform/suit, has a low-reaching collar for cinching up around your neck in inclement weather, and a long cut that reaches the lower calf, if not, the ankles for maximum coverage and insulation.

I am by no means a fashionista or anywhere close, but I know function, and the more expensive one appears more accurate to intended purpose of greatcoats (“trench coats”).

But FFS, why does it look so bad?! You’re not storming Verdun or The Somme, or Passchendaele, you’re trying to make a cute outfit to impress your friends or feel confident! Why does the cheap one look so much better for that purpose!?

maybe remove the wrinkles from both the coat and then show us lol. i think the pricier one was just crumpled b4 u tried it on. smoothen the wrinkles then show us

The buttons! Its always the buttons!
(The right one is cheaper).

As someone who sews, a good lifehack is just to replace notions like buttons to make them look a lil better.

I actually prefer the more expensive one. The cut is very modern and young, compared to the more classic less expensive one. I feel like my mom would choose the shorter one.

If you just iron the expensive one i think it'll look better ... i like how the sleeves hang down and the collar looks better, the shoulder part also is more flattering unlike the cheap ones which appears to be tight and crapped

I guessed right. But, the expensive one needs to be ironed (ie taken care of) and you need to consider the fit for your body (shape & size* inclusive). I think if you put both at their best state and used models that would flatter the fit of each individually, you would be able to tell which one costs more and why.

Wrinkles usually mean more natural fibers like cotton in it. You should iron it to give a fair comparison. When it’s stiffer and doesn’t wrinkle as much it’s usually a synthetic fabric blend which essentially means plastic.

I actually liked the left one more.. the form just looked better and less akward but the material of the cheaper one looks better

People that didn't recognise the expensive one here is why it's better (everyone has difrent taste so don't attack me):
1.for first the material that it's made of probably is more expensive made from better quality materials or natural fabrics like cotton.
2.the lenght more expensive is longer which elongates the figiure and makes it more flatering and also more material costs more
3 the buttons on the cheaper one they're bulky and more visible probably made out of shitty plastic
4.cheaper one has very sharp edges so it makes you look boxy

I knew the wrinkled one was more because it looks more comfortable and not as stiff as the cheaper one
