I also added some links in the description, for you to see second-hand & new options of these garments (I pre-filtered the results based on how I would shop for myself). And now the big question: after watching this video, which trench coat would you rather put your money on?

It would be great if you did more videos like this: compare similar garments in cheap, expensive, and maybe mid-range price tags.

I bought my Burberry on sale at Harrods in 1982! It is still as beautiful as ever!

I worked with a woman who, when she graduated from University in the 1970s, received a Burberry trench coat from her father. She still wore it when she retired in 2015. It looked great. So when my daughter graduated from University in 2018, I bought her a Burberry trench coat. I am a dressmaker, and I am very happy to know that any time a button gets loose, she takes it to the store and it is repaired for free. We are both happy with the investment.

When it comes to trench coats I wouldn’t budge from Burberry. I bought trench coats annually before I bought a Burberry 10 years ago. It’s still looks amazing, holds its shape and the quality is amazing (I wear it almost everyday in spring and autumn). It’s timeless and I haven’t bought another trench since. Worth every buck I paid and I still love to wear it.

I was lucky enough to find a Christian Dior men's trench coat in a US thrift shop, 30 years ago. It cost $20. I wear it every winter (and I've been in the UK for the past 15 years, so it has seen some use) and it still looks a million dollars.

The small inside buttons: I was taught they are not there for aesthetics. They are to prevent tear of the fabric, by spreading the pressure on the inside fabric when the outside button is yanked.

it is really useful to learn the reason behind why some aspects are better quality, and how they affect the garment. You cannot always find a garment where everything is impeccable so it is good to be able to judge what aspects of quality will be most important to prioritise for you. for example if an issue is mostly aesthetic or if it will make the whole thing fall apart.

Fashion-challenged, but just want nice, functional, durable clothes. We never notice these things, but once seen and understood, they can’t be unseen. Thanks for educating us consumers.

Few years ago, I bought a vintage Christian Dior trench coat from around the 1970's for £55. I'm a tailor and I revamped it a bit and now it's fits like a dream. Even my manager said that nowadays they are not making coats with details like this...

Here in the U.K that huge pocket in the Barbour is called the 'poacher's pocket', will fit a dead Rabbit or Pheasant without detection !

Nice video! I’m a fellow designer and just wanted to make a correction on one statement - the small buttons on the inside of the Burberry coat are not to cover the thread only. The main purpose of this button is to add stability to the front button so it doesn’t “flop”. It’s a common technique used in outerwear making (mainly) where larger and heavier buttons are used and they need to lay even against the fabric.

I'd really love a video comparing quality of garments through the decades. I've personally always found that the vintage items I find in consignment stores are constructed a lot better than new items of the same brand!

Here in the UK in the country, it’s considered much more fashionable if your Barbour is extremely well worn and at least 15 years old. They just go on forever, mine will probably outlive me. Brilliant video 👏

I found a red ladies 12us Burberry trench coat at a thrift for 11.99!! It's gorgeous and the original owner had her name embroidered on the label. I love it!

I would buy vintage Burberry for the cut, cause I'm really not into the whole oversized potato bag style that is roaming around these days :) And I'm also constantly surprised when I look at new coats at shops that they don't have full lining. That never happened when I was younger and I don't remember prices to be that much higher just for the lining.

My mother was a seamstress, so I know her attitude towards perfect seams, pockets, cuts, materials etc., and while I was younger I used to copy those Schnitts from Burda to a paper and than cut them for her, so yes, I enjoy your videos greatly 😊😊😊❤️

Yes! More videos like this!!! Vlogs and magazines often preach "buy quality items" but that's the thing - - an average person like me with zero knowledge in textile and fashion can't tell what makes a garment of quality!!
