I recently got a m1 air and get a battery life of about 10 hours with half brightness. I used it only for research and writing my university paper. Not 16 hours but still decent

The advertised battery life is always going to be the absolute maximum. If you're running the processor and wifi heavily of course it will drain faster but 6 hours while doing work is still amazing. The Macbook Pro 16 wouldn't have lasted even half of that.

For a start, if you're using a program that isn't optimised for M1, then it's running through Rosetta 2 which is a known battery hog. Chrome is also quite taxing on battery (even the M1 version).

Same here. The battery life claims seem to be highly exaggerated. I lose almost 8-10% per hour inspite of using M1 optimised apps. I use vscode, Davinci Resolve, twitter and safari on a daily basis and I'm hardly getting 6 hours of SoT with about 28% left. Standby mode, however, is amazing. Never lost a single percent in sleep mode overnight.

On my i7 2020 MacBook Air, I get about 2-3hrs while running zoom video meeting and chrome. I'd be very happy with 4.5hrs lol.

Have now posted my question about the battery circle in the Apple community forum. I got the answer about it very quick: It is normal behaviour, that a M1 MacBook Pro will drop about 10% in 40 Minutes, when using a Software DAW like Logic x Pro while recording AND running Adobe CC processes in the background (Adobe sync service etc.). That means a constant drop of 1% in 4 minutes.
Further on a Pro said, if you leave your MacBook plugged on the main, while you work at home, there is no harm caused to the battery. Additionally, as long as the MacBook is hooked on the power cable, it is better for your battery, because after unplugging it, it only counts as one loading cycle. These were good news for me, because now I only will unplug my MacBook Pro, when I work mobile.

Tbh this is a fair review. Not everyone will be utilizing just Mac specific applications. So a video that helps explain the battery usage while utilizing x86 really helps broaden the data!
Thanks!

Greg.) I'm gonna tell you that 6 hours of productive work on a laptop is perfect result. Because for example I had only 1.5-2 hours of real work with my old Dell XPS 9560 from 2017. Thats why I'm more than happy with my new Macbook Air M1, cause it gives me 5-6 hrs of same workflow that I'd have with my old Dell XPS. Think about that.)))

Six hours with the processor more or less pegged isn’t that bad, honestly. That’s a trans-continental of trans-Atlantic flight’s worth of uptime while doing processor intensive work. I would definitely take it.

Maybe its just me but the background music is very distracting

I bought mine in March 2021 and i get about 6 hours when producing music with Ableton Live. I’m not getting close to 18 hours. I guess I could see it lasting that long if I only use safari. Battery does last long while on sleep lol between being completely off and on sleep mode, there’s like 1% drainage.

I have been watching YouTube vids for about 2 hours with an external speaker and I was at 82% and I'm already down to 68%. Even when I don't use it at all for a couple of days it's almost drained when I do pick it back up. it charges fast though...

Bro my new M1 macbook air is taking almost 3 hours 30 minutes maybe even a little more for a full charge to 100%. Is it normal? 5 days since date of purchase.

You cant seriously expect 14 hours battery on fricking davinci resolve!!! I got about 13 hours backup on 250 nits brightness, on just using safari and youtube for most time, and I did about 1.5-2 hours coding on android studio

Well I am using final cut pro and safari on my macbook air m1 and the battery life is insane. I am getting 13-14 hours of battery life. I think there is some issue with your battery.

I have had my MacBook Air M1 for about 3 days and even just light web browsing drains the battery. There is no chance that I will get 10 hours just doing light tasks at all. Perhaps 6 or 7 hours at best.

I use my MacBook soley for simple web browsing with a few tabs and YouTube at 50% brightness. I get about 10-11 hours which is great but 18 hours (even 14 hours) is way BS.

I have a MacBook Air M1 and I don't get less than 14hrs with the brightness at 50%. I did the same test with Low Power Mode and I got 3 times 18 hours. No video editing or any heavy task. I did document processing, web browsing, bank applications, WhatsApp, telegram, Skype sometimes, e-mail, messages, notes, calendar and other applications during my office hours here in Brazil.
