EPISODE 13

In the original RODE PodMic demonstration, Tony discovered that it had noise from electromagnetic interference. We thought it was a defective unit, so we ordered another one to test in this update!

RØDE recently released a firmware 2.0 update for their RØDECaster Pro sound board for podcasting, and it has a load of new features. We walk through the new features in this firmware v2 update and demonstrate a few of them.

Thanks for the review of the updates. I'm considering adding the RODECaster to my Sling Studio setup.

Great review, I just subscribed to your channel. I am thinking about either getting this unit or the Zoom Podtrak P8, which one do you think I should buy?

This video made me decide to get Rodecaster and the Podmic. How are you getting the video and audio to record together? Im trying to do a video podcast.

Hi guys! I use a Podmic in my home studio with a Rodecaster Pro and when I run this mic at full gain I can't get and 60 hz hum. I even set the internal gain to full and no hum. I ran this test in my office with the another Podmic and Procaster Pro and I can't get any hum. I think in your situation the hum is coming from your wiring (ex. lighting, lighting controller, etc...).

Hi Guys, is it possible to use one of these without any headphones? I currently use 1 unpowered Videomic about 2ft away, connected to a Rode Wireless mic unit, directly into my laptop and a GoPro, but would really love the extra features of being able to introduce a phone call and have sound effects on those buttons, but not keen on needing XLR mic's that have to be all up in your face and headphones.

Could I just use this as an additional input source to my computer or plugin my RODE Wireless Go mic into it?

Thank you for the thorough reviews! Just bought both the Rødecaster and Podmic, and loving it. Really helpfull watching your videos on it to learn all the little details and advanced mechanics.
There is one feature I was wondering if you could give me some answers on though. (Note that I am new in podcasting and sound equipment)
Is there a way I can add voice effects live? By this I mean effects that really transform your voice, like autotune, narration voice, robotic voice. I know its possible to add later on in Garageband or similar, but would like a way to do it live.

Wish List- When you are playing something on one sound pad you cant toggle to another bank. Once you tap the pad its locked until its done. So when on bank 1 you are LOCKED to that bank until it completes what is playing.

I can't seem to get rid of the noise on my Podmic either. I have two condenser mics connected to the Rodecaster as well and they are very quiet. Could it be because of close proximity to a large iMac screen? It's loud enough that the noise gate is super annoying. I work in a controlled and acoustically treated environment and have traditionally done my podcasts with condenser mics. So far, the testing of the Podmic has been a disappointment. I'll keep on trying to locate any possible/additional electrical interference but beyond any buzz, its just noisy.

Good tutorial I don't know why Rode did not have an user manual, more or less a shoot from the hip rollout. We purchased two units for podcast on the road and so far so good. From days of early electronic recording that darn HUM has plagued Radio, TV and Studio Engineers. I can suggest from experience. Try to buy good Quad cable (two hot, two cold and braided shield and with name metal connectors not plastic with metallic plating. I make all my own because and test with an old ballasted florescent light on. Some "Value Vendors" don't look at studio type production but the "Garage Band" production where budget trumps quality. It also doesn't hurt to have a couple in-line isolation and ground lifting adapters in the cookie box, only problem they don't work with Phantom power.

Great video thank you. Could I request a video on how you set up this/or a video like this. I want to do some cohosting videos as well using my rodecaster pro and I’d love to see a video from you as to how to set this up so that my co host is shown on a screen to my side as well. The sound and video is great and I think many would like to k ow how to set this up. Would that be possible? If not could you walk us through the steps? Thanks for the great video.

I'm new to Podcasting, and have just ordered my RodeCaster Pro. I hope to be able to connect my Cisco VOIP phone to the Rodecaster Pro through the TRRS cable. I purchased a "VoiceJoy Female 3.5mm CTIA Smartphone Headset to Cisco RJ9 Adapter Cable - 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Converter to Cisco Office IP Phone", then use a TRRS cable to plug into the RodeCaster Pro. The plan is to test this configuration out later this week. Most of my guest (who are somewhat technically challenged) will not be able to make it to our studio and will be calling in. Any feedback would be appreciated.
