Ngl GTA IV was always my favorite GTA game. I remember my dad and I playing it on the Xbox 360 way back in the NXE days and that probably wasn’t a good idea to let me play it when I was so young, but even after all the GTA V updates, IV has stayed my favorite and it probably will stay my favorite for a long time

GTA V lacks detail, in certain areas. What GTA V did better than IV, is stuff like the odd graffiti, and things like that. Personally, GTA V is very surface level, and arcadey. It was fun, for sure. But I never truly felt immersed in it. I felt like I was watching through a window, or like the game takes place in a snowglobe, or a fishtank.

In GTA IV, I felt like I was there, either that I was Niko, or more like I was right there alongside him. Maybe that has to do with the fact that I a relate a lot more with his backstory, and with him as a character overall. But that's just it, it was all those details, just like with the physics, just like with the driving, and the throwable items etc. that made the story so much more engaging as well. And the story doesn't take you down a dark path and cover it glitz and glam the way GTA V does. You ever play V, and feel that overwhelming sense of dissonance? I don't get that in IV. The location and setting, and the story and atmosphere fit together like a glove. Niko is some immoral jackass trying to hit it big like Micheal or Franklin, and he isn't some psycho like Trevor. He's just a guy, who's trying to get to the right place, so that he can do the right thing, and not lose his life in doing so. He ends up doing some dark things, and dealing with his demons in the name of survival. Not in the name of trying to get rich so that he can live in a mansion, or get his ex back, or turn into one of the very businessmen that made the world that his sh* up in the first place. That's why his revenge was so hollow in the end. It's great writing, and shows a deep understanding of the playerbase they were trying to appeal to.

And outside of the story, and the characters, the amount of effort they put it to make it feel like a real place. GTA V leaves too much on the table for the upgrade in technology they had.

I can only hope that GTA VI draws on what GTA IV had to offer, and this time gives us those sunny, upbeat Florida vibes, but also gives us that immersion, and detail, and strong story I've been craving since GTA V came out.

I’m playing GTA 4 right now and I just drove past a guy stopped in traffic with his hood open this engine smoking and the dude is leaning over the engine bay pretending to check out the problem. Amazing

honestly i am one of the few ones who played gta 4 first then 5 and after playing 5 after 4 it appears to be a downgrade in physics and even realistic storyline to in gta 5 u are doing heist robbery and killing as many as cops in a misson which is somewhat unrealistic to me as compared to gta 4 and driving too i especially like gta 4 driving system more than 5s and again its only my opinion

Rockstar was definitely more innovative and had more of an artistic thought process back when they created IV. Seems like they got lazy with GTA V lol
