So happy that my x3s works, got a lot of time so i can tune it a lot. Its my first printer and I'm happy with it.

I'm happy to read that I'm not the only one who found the tevo tarantula to be a mess from an assembly point of view.
I bought one second hand that I collected in person still assembled... Everything was loose so I decided to carefully dismantle it while adding washers... It was so tedious, taking so long and the wiring was so messy that I gave up deciding to fully dismantle it and sell it

Joe, I have to say I love the points you made in this. While a cheap 3d printer can help get people into 3d printing, a bad cheap 3d printer can get them out just as quickly. I am ok with inexpensive budget models (after all I started out in the pretty low cost end of the pool when it came to 3d printing) but for every decent find you can make at say a 200 Dollar or Euro price point, there are ten bad printers waiting to show you why some parts shouldn't be skimped on. I feel like a lot of the people making 3d printers are sort of chasing each other around in circles wanting to be this month's "cool" printer, while leaving a smaller portion of people making 3d printers to sort of blaze the new trails in terms of features. Thanks for being willing to tell it like it is.

I have both of these printers and you are spot on with your assessment, the x3s hotbed is actually 24v, because the system is only 12v, that is why it wouldn't heat up. With a few upgrades and a bit of tinker time, both can be really good printers.

At this point and level you are completely right to say get a better kit, as we know there are better kits as far as Instructions and working condition, Not a reflection on any company but as far as injecting products into the field some sort of QC must be in play.  Great Info as always Happy Extruding !

There is a way I can think of to fix the problem with the dis-assembly-reassembly to align the z axis stepper motors. Change out the phillips head screws behind the stepper motor for the same size hex head bolts. Not allen bolts but six sided bolts. This would allow you to use an open end wrench to reach between the extruded aluminium and stepper motor to loosen and tighten the screws.

When the upload is so fresh the resolution available is only 360p! Keep it up!

I totally understand you. I have been trying to launch my channel with humble budget and I wanted to do it with the FLSun i3 c 2017 Larger version. I decided to it with that printer 1) because I didn't (don't) have too much money. So I want to start the channel little by little and 2) because It looks a possible competitor for the Cr-10 (at that moment of purchase). It looked solid printer with larger printer volume with a reasonable price. However, I have been more than 3 months trying to use the printer. The seller has been sending all this time sending replacement parts to change faulty parts than came with the printer. So far, The seller sent me three packages, and i am still waiting to receive the last one. In all these three months and half, I have been able to use the printer only 3 times to print just 3 calibrations cubes. So in totally, I used it so far around 36 min. I am very very frustrated. I feel very bad to choose wrong. And now I don't have budge to buy a new one. So I am trapped in the loop with the seller to wait to get all the replacement parts. So, if anyone wants to start in the 3d printer world, follow the recommendation of Joe, and go for more reliable printers even you have to save a little more money. It can save you a lot of pain.

And to add to your wrap up towards the end, Joe, people should not have to flash firmware out of the box as the menus are backwards etc!

They have a 20 A power supply. I put a 30 in mine and trashed the S#1T board with the new Ramps V1.5. Wow. All fixed and then some!!!

I bought the X3 for my birthday earlier this year and yeah I've had to tweak it a bit but I get some pretty awesome prints out of it. Haven't printed any parts meant to fix it.

As for the X3a, I think a build enclosure would help with the higher temp prints

I have the X3, I redid all the acrylic parts in aliminium, threadlocker on all the screws, withdrawal of the ball bearing for the support of the bed now it slides on two rods. I print tensioners for X and Y, the heating bed moves constantly so I added a nut under each screw. The price paid for the effort requested is not worth it, saved longer and bought a better quality printer.

Very much what I was saying on The Twitter the other day ( Beardy McBeardface) we spend our hard earned money on these and therefore we should expect them to work, out of the box. Not need to spend the first week printing modification parts etc! We are being ripped off imho and yes it damages the community

I have both an Anet A8 and a TronXY X3A (autolevel) and I can't compare printing quality because I have not still finished building the TronXY... It is horrible. The TronXY thing is OK buying if you have already a printer and some spare parts and you assemble it upgrading it at the same time. Otherwise... not reccomended.

I've been looking into and reading about the X5S for my next printer because I like the print quality of the fixed build plate printers (Like the Duplicator 6 I have). I realize it's going to be more of a project than a printer, so that is keeping me on the fence about it. Might just get a CR-10s.
