I use a garage pad in this example but as a carpenter these methods are used on a daily basis. If you are building ANYTHING you should watch this video.

The dimensions of a building should always be face of framing to face of framing— not finish. You want your framing to be flush with foundation. OSB or plywood substrate should extend beyond foundation 7/16 or whichever thickness to keep water away from foundation and sill plate. Many ways of doing it— but I prefer this way!

You are absolutely correct bro. This is what I do before I snap a house out an detail it. Only thing I did different was I'd have the labor burn my tape 1' just because I never liked using the end of my tape to square a slab. But ya, snap the longest wall off your crows foot and the carpet guys are happy, floor tile guys, and if you can read a level when you plum & line whoever roofs the house will be happy . Gotta be square. Good video homie.

Hi Kody. Thanks so much for the wisdom in the video. I am building a house on a heavy duty trailer. The subfloor frame I built to put the floor sheathing on is not a perfect square. Should I make the AdvanTech sheathing square with the trailer or square with the deck I built on top of the trailer?

I'm not dissing your video, but half way through, before you brought the Pythagorean theorem into your video, I was saying to myself, "what if the contractors doing the pad made a nice parallelogram for your base? The 3-4-5 method is fricking foolproof! Nice video though, I would have never thought to use a chalk line as an absolutely accurate way to start!

I've got a problem in that my numbers aren't working. My carport is 22 x 20 and when I check square, it's off by 3 to 9 inches. So I went 22 x 22 and times one side by 1.414. This gave me 31.14 so my square is 31 x 31. Re measured and it was off by 5 inches. I don't have any more hair to pull out.

SO on the parallel line below do the same as the left top corner correct? Also in a very large room can on the long wall should i chalk line as close as possible because I won't see the line when I start to lay vinyl plank down??

Just had a garage pad with stem wall poured. It's supposed to be 24*28. Ended up 24*27'11"*24'*28 3/4. Measures perfect diagonally. Almost a parallelogram. Struggling with squaring it up

This would have been much better if you just showed a box, how to square a box with math and then applied that to construction.

Aight cool man. I just had to make sure I was thinkin right. I actually frame been doin it ten years. I'm just gonna pull down nine ft. Make some kinda mark square mark. And where ever my 15 ft from the 9/12/15 intersect I pop my line through and make all my numbers the same? Or should I pop my wall then check and adjust?
