I typically do this with the strike plate of a door (the side that's attached to the door frame). Scratches don't matter there, it's made out of metal, and doors are everywhere.

I learned this from Overboard. I broke a bottle doing this once. I don't remember the circumstances though, maybe I was using something too hard. Anyhow, worth taking note of.

Yeah, you are doing it wrong like almost everyone does...

Do not hit the top of the bottle, just press it down and move the bottle a bit.
That works better with a little practise. And it will not damage the table, bottle, your hand and it's also better for the beer ;-)

@gastefan It's not fake -.- I have done that hundreds of times with glass bottles but it's not the best way because glass breaks very easily
