I have seen a couple of those crash dummy visuals of Hans vs no Hans but with real human beings, not staged, not in some studio testing lab, this makes it so abundantly clear the massive difference the device makes. In motorsport these days we don't much think about it because it's become mandatory in a lot of categories. This is such a testament to safety and the people who fought so hard to implement the Hans, that like a seatbelt, it's just normal now and we don't have to see drivers needlessly dying.

When the torso is strictly restricted the head wants to whip. It's that whip that causes death. Adam Petty, Tony Roper, Dale Earnhardt, Blaze Alexander and many more. HANS prevents that.

A very telling video, but remember that a HANS device is only effective in head on crashes. The side impact is dealt with by the wing of the seat. If using seats without wings, then you should really be using a Simpson HYBRID. They are easier to wear and now FIA homologated. I recently bought one, but have yet to truly test it...thankfully

Our heads are heavy enough, but add a helmet to that too. Replay shows that as a dead stop and at pretty low speed., maybe 17 mph, but it was still a brutal thing for the driver. This really does illustrate the effectiveness of that ‘Damned noose’ that Dale wouldn’t wear. Adam, Kenny., so many would be here today if it was developed and introduced earlier. Through all of racing, the specific cause of death wasn’t studied that much., racing is dangerous and ‘They died doing what they loved to do’.

Great example- Hans couldn't have made a better commercial for uses of it- or similiar products. Clearly they can go a long way to save lives or at least reduce injuries.

There is a saying; ' All the gear, all the time, no excuses! I think the driver has just got the message and will be buying a HANS device as soon as possible!

And this is why, when I see people drive with a 4pt harness but no HANS (like plenty of "tuner cars" on the street), I already prepare some Darwin awards.
