Too much treble on that Kohler. Almost sounded like an old saloon piano.

Oh the Steinway is so beautiful sounding.

The Kohler had quite harsh trebles - for me, it's the Steinway all the way - rich and mellow.

Love the warm sound of the Steinway. Wish I could have that Model M in my home!

I preferred the mid sized piano sound! I guess also, the sound would differ depending on the make of piano and this experiment could go on for ages!

I loved the kohler surprisingly. It’s so bright and crisp. I could see how it would do better for ragtime and fast pieces

I wish all videos on youtube would be so clear to understand and on point.

Hello Maestro Sung, I heard a concert you gave with fellow Curtis alum Hillary Hahn at a college. Thank you for taking the invitation and blessing the college with Carnegie Hall sound. G-d bless you in Yesu's name.

Can you do a video comparing the height of soundboards in uprights?

The camera position is also relevant since the sound can be different from the front, back, top, bottom... maybe that is why the second one sonds better because it is ABOVE the piano.

Excellent comparison! Would love if you guys would do a similar comparison for upright pianos (spinet, console, studio).

In my personal opinion I thought the 5 ft. 7 in. one sounded the richest, but I guess everyone hears differently.

Amazing playing on all 3. Yamaha CFX sounds more "grand".

This really was a fun video, and I enjoyed it immensely. It is astounding to compare the differences of sound of these different pianos. It's hard to not say that the 9ft grand doesn't sound completely amazing.

So of course the length of the strings gives more overtones, but does the body of the piano itself resonate, or at least does a larger body allow more resonance within the piano? I'm thinking of stringed instruments, but the premise seems similar to me.

Rich: Great that you bobbled your head like that over any notion like "Less than 6' is a baby grand and more than 6' is a grand"! First of all, I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY that it's best to forget the term "baby grand" completely and just talk about what dimension grand it is -- "5 ft grand, " "7 foot grand" etc. To me, A GRAND IS A GRAND; all grands are grands; they're the same kind of animal. :-) I've owned 4'11, 5'1, 5'7, and 6'11 grands -- and they're all grands.

It must have been more apparant if you were in the room. I'm listening to a Youtube video on a tablet, but even I could hear the increased resonance of the Yamaha. Size does count.

I learned to piano on a Lester Betsy Ross Spinet. Thank you for the history lesson.
