While US Politics is dominated by the Democrats and Republicans, they aren't the only two political parties you might see on the ballot. And while parties like the Libertarians and Greens get some press, they're unlikely to gain any power at the federal level. So why on Earth do parties smaller than they are even bother? In this video, we look at America's fringe parties, the ones who have no real shot at winning but for some reason still take part.

Ft: The American Solidarity Party, The American Independent Party, The Peace & Freedom Party, The Party for Socialism & Liberation, and The Alliance Party

One lesson from Tuesday's election I'm Virginia was "All Politics Are Local".

If any third party is going to make inroads in the US, they will have to think about concentrating on local elections: school boards, town councils, county seats, etc.

Smaller parties are very interesting, the deeper you go, the weirder they get.

The only way for these parties to succeed are to start at the bottom. Meaning city mayor for example. You will not win on the national level until you win on the local level.

A good chunk of these parties (particularly the solidarity party) sound like they would be pretty normal in any other country

Important to mention that the PSL last week had the best vote share of any socialist candidate in NYC since the 1950s with more than 25 thousand votes in NYC alone

how can anyone think that 2 parties can represent so many people

they can't

Analyzing these parties just by presidential elections is a little limiting. For example, the PSL does put forth presidential candidates, but my understanding is that they are more focused on local elections and engaging communities outside of electoral politics.

This was quite interested, though none of these parties will relevant on either a state or national level until ranked choice voting is adopted.

American Solidarity is like the opposite of Libertarians.
Libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially progressive, while Solidarity-ists are fiscally liberal and socially conservative.

Cover more European fringe parties. Like French, Italian, Swedish and German ones.

Wow, I really need to do more research into the American Solidarity Party. I've become disillusioned with the Republicans and I want a more central party to vote for. I'm excited to study now, lol

As an American and a former Conservative Republican, I'm glad to now be following the American Solidarity Party, myself, for the foreseeable future. I was spouting Distributist talking points long before I even knew who Belloc and Chesterton were.
