GALE FORCE WINDS | Sailing the Cape of STORMS | The Southernmost Tip of Africa Ep.125

The fearsome coast of South Africa delivers a real challenge as we attempt to sail round Africa's southernmost tip and back into the Atlantic Ocean. The Cape of Good Hope is also known as the CAPE of STORMS and it lived up to that name, giving us big waves and gale force winds. Blasting along under storm jib alone we were in awe as we passed this major milestone on our voyage around the world and sailed into one of the most spectacular destinations we have visited.

We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

Congratulations. I don't think there is another channel I've come across who enjoys the actual sailing as much as these two.

Well, that episode Matt and Amy, was without doubt your best yet. I was mesmerised. Your footage, filming, music and the obvious bond you two share is such a captivating thing to watch. Keep safe you your journey wherever you are, and thanks for the excellent videos. John.

As a South African from Cape Town and a sailor I am really excited to watch you do this passage! I’m also proud to hear that you’ve been looked after so nicely in East London!
Quick pronunciation tip: Agulhas - the “gul” part is pronounced like the word “gull” and the emphasis is on this syllable! Love your channel and your adventures!!

"We're not in the tropics anymore", she said, needing the presence of a seal to point this out, as she was wearing her entire wardrobe, foul weather gear and three beanies 🤣

Fabulous episode - loved your contagious excitement and the boisterous conditions - "This is how you SHOULD sail around the Cape of Storms".

I was quite emotional seeing the mountains of Hout Bay! Many people who see our Cape for the first time say the same: “we think we’ll never leave!”Thank you!!

Yip, good fun sailing off the southern tip of Africa, they say if you can sail here you can sail anywhere, say hi to Craig, Jesse, Richard, and all my friends at HBYC, awesome club and marina, I spent an amazing 2 + months there after buying my steel Stadt 34' last year. With regards Aghulas and Cape point, I've had both the best and worst of it, blew a head gasket and Genoa off rocky bank at 2 am in 35 knots and had to get a tow into Simon's town, then 2 weeks later rounded Aghulas at 1 am in 35 Kn true with a double reeded main, 4 m breaking seas doing 17.7 Kn SOG en route back to PE, it's not for the faint of heart, for sure, I've left royal Cape in .3 Kn and got into Hout bay in 48 true, that's 13 odd nm, done that trip around Aghulas a few times and it's never been easy, this is why boats like Cape 28's Miuras and L34 and L36's are so highly regarded, along with steel boats like the Dix Hout bay 33 and my boat, chined steel VDS 34'. It's most certainly not an easy coast to sail, you had it easy, wait till winter!!!

I knew you’ll be fine. Like most things when it comes to Africa, the negatives are over amplified.

If you haven't yet been to the Bay market on Friday night do yourselves a favour. Lovely African crafts, local food, drinks, band and a good vibe. Exciting sail without the threat of danger!

Very nice video, i was a bit emotional watching the East London section, the reason, my late Brother used to stay in East London, his Ashes were scattered at Sea of the Coast in 2012, he loved the SEA and East London, i live just a few miles inland from the Port city of Durban in Kzn! I love watching Your channel, Amazing voyage You Two undertook to sail around the world!

Double Wow! Breathtaking sail. This series is easily the best sailing experience. I'm rolling with the boat, I'm loving the techniques of ocean voyaging, and marvelling at the scenes of sea and landscape. Love it! Sail safe!

Thanks for a super video. You're the only one that I follow. Only one thing, It's not the Agoolis current or Cape Agoolis it's the Agulhas. A gul has. I learned to sail in Port Elizabeth and we regularly joined visiting boats for the trip to Cape Town.
