One step closer to living out our dream of sustainable seasteading! Sailing in Gale Winds! Out on our second lesson with Captain Keith McGarry of Captain Keith's Charters. We were the only boat out facing the tough seas that day. Plenty of learning to be had under such conditions!
A special thanks to Captain Keith! He's an amazing man who is playing a huge role in making our dreams a reality!

Be sure to find and like us on Facebook to stay up to date with our project.

Ok been watching you for a while. Now I am starting at the beginning to see how much you have grown over the 5 years.

I've sailed in a couple of F10s aboard a Najad 441 on Ocean passages in the Pacific and and as long as you looked after her, she looked after you. It's still like living inside a washing machine mounted on a rollercoaster though. Off watch in your bunk you get used to going weightless or getting thrown up to the deck head then being compressed into your bunk as she comes up.
When you manage to wedge bowls in place and try to tip meals into them for the food to instantly fly sideways, when you find walking on the seat backs down below is easier than on the deck and you dread opening a locker that is now over your head where all the tins are and going to the toilet is hands and toes against the bulkhead. Then you come level and nothing makes sense, then back over. For days.. Aghh I miss it.
It's so real you can't explain it until you've lived it.
And the noise. What videos never capture accurately is how loud it is with the slamming and a 60 knot wind screaming through the rig.

as long as you have a plan B, you did fine but i may have handled that a bit differently. i have taught several crews, winter sailing, small craft, and tons of night sailing. it really depends on the crew, you guys sound like you can hang in there. Im also very sure that Keith taught you to respect her, she will make you dance with her or shell eat you up alive. im sure your teeth got gritty from extended hours of adreniline pumping through ya. lots of white knuckles!!! lol. thats how i role to. i have a 36 Catalina MK2 now, shes a fast beast of a boat, im looking forward to the day when my current crew can handle every position on the boat, also under power. make sure you guys practice man overboards, just drop a life jacket at the worst time and call out who cant help in recovery, this adds a bit of reality to the mix. good luck and God speed sailing.

How many knots of wind you had? Judging from what I see here it looked like about 20... not really a gale.
