When I taught my dog to speak. I also taught her "quiet". Worked out extremely well, for all involved. ❤ She was rewarded for QUIET and speaking on demand.

No dog should ever be de-barked, but 9 out of 10 dog owners should be de-dogged.

I appreciate your stance on shock collars! More vets need to take this stand. As a professional trainer, I also recommend the original Anxiety Wrap (NOT the Thundershirt, which is the knockoff that came out on the market 8 years after the Anxiety Wrap and is a far less effective product) and the Calming Face Wrap. I have found the Face Wrap to be especially effective for dogs that bark due to anxiety.

I have a high-drive Dutch shepherd who is also very animal aggressive. Consistent and fair training resulted in him monitoring himself and/or coming to me, even without being called, when he wants to set the world on fire. I was glad to see this video relied, at least in part, upon the invaluable importance of training your dog to come to you (party!!!) as well as recognizing that barking is part of the natural order of dogs but doesn't have to be disruptive.  :-)

Thank you for the great tips. My roommate’s dog barks like crazy when there is someone at the door. She’s the sweetest girl, but sounds like she’s going to rip a head off. I’m working on your suggestions right now.

seriously, which inhuman creature would ever remove a dog's vocal chords. that's just mutilation cause you can't be arsed to put time into training, which makes it even worse

I watched this video while listening to my neighbor’s dogs constant barking. I live on the 12th floor of the building and yet it sounds like they are right outside my window, i love dogs and have had a few in my lifetime, but I made sure my dogs did not disturb my neighbors this way. I like what one commenter here said about dedogging the owner instead of debarking the dog. If people are going to leave their dogs outside to bark constantly, they truly should not be dog owners.

Teaching your dog to trust you to make the right decisions, and therefor to come to you whilst distractions are all around is the most valuable thing you can do, start early on, it will pay off.

This makes perfect sense and I think it will be very helpful.

I use Rescue Remedy for myself and my dogs, and, I must say that this is a lifesaver for my dogs when they're anxious. I take some whenever my nerves are rattled, or I can't sleep. I mainly give it to my dogs whenever I travel with them as well to keep them from whining or vomiting in the car. One Christmas, I decided to take my dogs with me to my aunt's house while my parents went to Virginia to help my uncle make funeral arrangements for my grandma, who had passed that day. I gave them each one squirt in the mouth (10lbs=1 squirt), and, after I put them in their crate, they didn't make a peep! They slept the whole way!

OMG..people really remove their dog's vocal chords? They need to have their's removed. How freaking cruel! 🤬🤬🤬

Good video! I conditioned a treat to the word "Thankyou!"  She barked at the door and that's fine for 3 barks--- I then say "Thankyou" and she knows she will get a treat and turns toward me instead of the door.  I discovered the barking stops. No, I did not get  an increase barking because I give her treats. In fact, I'm thinking I'm paring all scary things at the door means all good things to come. The barking actually decreased.

This is so sad, I never heard of de-barked, ever, I can't imagine a dog not being able to bark SMH but I will definitely try this, I'm so happy to come across your videos, I know they're going to help me with my big beautiful boy who barks at apsoluty nothing lol can't wait to watch more of your videos and i thank you so much.

Great basic advice as it's diverting the attention away from the stimulus of the knocking that triggers the bark. Also, when you yell at your dog to stop barking, he may only think that you are barking TOO. As a dog trainer for 13 years, I still catch myself forgetting what I suggested. My dogs hear a bug fart a mile away and bark, that's what I get for raising protection dogs I suppose.

I believe shock collars are horrific. i think they do something to the natural aura or field around the dog. I love your videos. Thank you. To do all you do, taking the time to make these videos shows how much you truly care about these guys.

Thank you for these wonderful training tools. I have a 5yr old GSD and she experiences a lot of anxiety when she sees and/or hears other dogs. She barks incessantly; causing more stress for her and me. A neighbor walks by with his 3 unruly (barking) dachshunds and my dog flips out. I am at my wits end and desperate for help. My financial situation is pretty dire and I'm unable to take her for training. When I could afford training, it didn't seem to work. I will most definitely use these techniques. Thanks again!!!
