She’s the smartest person in the world.
As much as Homelander hates her guts. He needs her because she’s the only one who can actually get shit done and actually speak her mind, which is a trait Homelander admittedly needs because he’s getting sick of being feared and the people around him not having a sense of individuality.

He hated Stan Edgar but the sad truth is, he really needs him but his ego won’t allow him to admit it, so he doubles down and hires someone with brains who is somewhat similar to him, and she’s smart enough to know that if Homelander kills her, then it’s going to make his approval ratings tank. he needs her to help fix his image. Which is something he desperately needs. Approval.

this is the second time ive seen this scene just noticed at 2:20 when she snaps the selfie look at homelander its like he sees theres a camera and instictively goes into a "zombie protect my image" type phase and then snaps out of it and is kinda like wtf with his facial features. Pretty funny I didnt notice that the first time.

I feel like you guys aren't clocking it. She's setting up a system by which the Seven and Vought create a superhuman society, where Supes are essentially a ruling class because people put them in that position (because they were manipulated into it.) Homelander will be the leader and she'll be his second in command, actually running things. The issue is that Homelander is massively unstable and as a result, she needs a contingency - a "Good Guy" capable of stopping Homelander that she can control and put into his place should Homelander ever become too much to deal with. And - who isn't associated too heavily with Homelander's Brand.

Her plan is actually kinda the same as the CIA's. She wants Ryan on her side so that he can deal with Homelander if Homelander ever needs to be dealt with. At which point, Either Ryan kills Homelander or they both kill each other, and Sage remains in control. If Ryan is alive he's the new figurehead and by this point would trust her as a friend, and isn't interested in ruling the world so... that stays on her. If they're both dead... she just finds some new figureheads, people who are easier to control than Homelander, or she works out a deal with the opposition stacked in her favour.

Basically the only way that Sage loses is - if The Boys figure out how to stop her, or if she underestimates how unstable Homelander is and he kills her? But it seems like she's figured out how to push his buttons just enough that he respects her intelligence but not so much that he's provoked into killing her. Right now he wants someone to disagree with him and challenge him. If that changes, I think Sage will clock that that has changed pretty quickly and adjust accordingly - because she talks to EVERYONE differently. She knows exactly what to say to everyone she meets to get the reaction she wants from them and while Homelander is more risky because... y'know, Homelander, I feel like she has a good chance of adjusting and keeping herself safe from him.

I honestly think if anyone kills her it won't Homelander, it'll be Deep. I don't know how or why, there's a good chance it won't even be on purpose, but I think the potential for "The dumbest guy on the show accidentally kills the Smartest Evil Mastermind in the series" is just too funny for the writers to pass up.

I think at the end of the story Homelander will be hated, and he will confront Sage "What the Fuck are you doing".
